“We stay here all the time!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2006

My husband and i have to travel to SF often and instead of staying in the big city, we always choose to stay at this hotel. It is convenient to the Golden Gate Bridge, bringing us into the city easily. There is alot of local shopping, a large mall a couple of freeway exits to the north, and many restaurants available to this hotel. We have ALWAYS been treated with the utmost respect and appreciation by the staff, especially by the manager, Jeff.

The housekeeping staff is always friendly and smiling.

This is a popular hotel and it does get run down from alot of use, however they do try to stay ontop of it with constant remodeling and updating.

The freeway noise mentioned is not a problem if you ask for a room facing the courtyard. We have stayed in many HIEx's across the country, this one is not the best, but certainly not the worst we have encountered.

I feel safe in the location, alot safer then staying in SF.

After a full day in the big city, it's always nice to get to a small town and relax a little.

The interior of this hotel is standard HI fare, quite comfortable and clean. We stayed here out of desparation, arriving in SF a day early on a wet windy day, unable to book into our other accommodation. The rate for a room with two queens and a rollaway was $120 plus tax which I thought was pricey for the HI's location adjacent to a busy freeway, and with nothing in the way of extras except an included (albeit good quality) continental breakfast. The hotel is VERY hard to find if you arrive in the dark and wet so be sure to get good directions from the desk when you book.

There is very little choice in this price bracket in Sausalito and cheaper motels nearby are real dives. In future I would pay a little more for a decent hotel room in SF and catch the ferry over to Sausalito which is worth a visit.

Room was large & clean, and included a second sink outside the bathroom which is nice for couples & families. Location is quiet, and there's an excercise path that goes right by the hotel. They put out a nice breakfast each day. We were very satisfied with our stay and would come back.

Famous last words: "I have never had a bad experience with a Holiday Inn EXPRESS."

The hotel was a "re-do" of an older Holiday Inn. The carpet was dirty, the wallpaper was peeling, air conditioner was loud, as well as the passing traffic. We realized within the first hour that our TV remote was not working. We contacted the front desk and spoke to the "manager on duty." Needless to say, we did not receive a new remote until the following day after 3 phone calls to the front desk. They have attempted to update the hotel with new shower heads, shower curtains and towels. Note to hotel: don't worry about the towels - the plywood bed is a much bigger concern.

I expect a certain level of consistency with a chain; but once again, Holiday Inn has proven me wrong.

Staff tried to help with problems but no follow through. Nice location, large room, pretty view, quiet and good price, but we've stayed at HI Exp for similar pricing with no problems. Not sure we'll stay here again. First night sheets not fresh, hairs all over. Disgusting. Keys did not let us in upon a very late night return on a cold night with sleeping children, had to go all the way to the front desk. Family of 4 repeatedly given only 3 sets of towels despite requests every day. Extra blankets requested every night and taken away every day. $60 over charge kept on our debit account for 5 days after check out despite our signed invoice showing correct balance.

Stayed 11-28 for one night. We found our 1st floor room had the slider door already open. This isn't the same door we used to come into the room. Then I had an exit door handle come off the door into my hand!
But after locking everything up we had a quiet, comfortable stay. A freebie continental breakfast was ready before the published start time of 0630hrs. It's great being 1st in line!!!

This hotel is located adjacent to a freeway bridge where vagrants hang out. My room was burglarized and the management took absolutely no action. The management was rude, and brushed the incident off as if it was no big deal, and said they recommend to put your stuff in the safe at the front desk (who puts their purse in a hotel safe when on vacation???). This hotel is an easy target for burglary due to it's close proximity to the freeway bridge where vagrants live, and the managements lack of action to prevent it (I saw no security measures taken). Stay somewhere else!!
