This hotel is horrible. It's obvious the owners realize its location and lack of competition in the area mean they can get away with high prices and terrible service. We reserved a room for about $140, and when we arrived, the lock on the room we were given didn't work. Finally convince the guy at the desk of this, and he gives us another room. The heater had been left on, despite a heat wave in the area, so the temperature inside the room was up over 100 degrees. Go to the front desk, and get the room next door -- same story, though this one was only about 90 (see image). I called a few other hotels, and all were full, so unfortunately we had to stay. Another bonus was some sort of alarm attached to a sensor on the office, which was connected to speakers throughout the property, and would sound loudly any time somebody entered or exited the office. A *wonderful* night's sleep was capped off by being walked in on while getting dressed by some woman working there the next morning, who didn't bother to knock before opening the door. Avoid this place at all costs, it's miserable and a total rip-off.

Worst of 8 hotels used on tour - what a dump!

Don't contemplate staying here.

Its hard to find and its not worth it - in fact - stay in Sausalito and have done!

This place, which is the FOUNTAIN MOTEL, (does not say Best Value on marquee), is an old motel. Each unit has a front and back door! The paint is peeling, there are holes in the wall, great closet space, excellent parking, and near everything. No it isn't lovely but for the price (under $100) in Marin you can't do better!

Looked OK from the outside on arrival and the price of $85 not too bad

Rooms are very large. Its when you settle in you realise that the fittings in the bathroom were very old, there was a dirty wall heater and no air con. in the bathroom cabinet was a pair of underpants - ugh. Coffee in the reception but not in the room.

we felt uncomfortable here.

overpriced, esp compared to travelodge down the road which we had been trying to find.

We found this place on our way out of Tamalpais Valley, as the "Fireside Motel" (site of Bandits movie with Cate Blanchett, Billy Bob Thornton, Bruce Willis) caught our eye. Best Value/Fountain Motel looked like a budget (compared to Holiday Inn across street) so we asked to see a room - wow. They were HUGE, with balconies on front and back. There were full-size kitchens in each room there but were locked off. Huge walk-in closet. Huge counter for bathroom sink. cheapo toiletries, but we brought our own. The front view showed the Holiday Inn (contrived landscaping uplit) and above that a great view of the hills, and the back view showed a beautiful steep bluff with native plants. There was road noise from Hwy 101. While the room could use drywall touch-ups, it was very clean. Seriously - no spiders, ants, or whatever other insects reviewers wrote about. Our toddler was with us, and we definitely checked for any signs of dirt and wildlife before checking in. While we loved the room, the place and room definitely felt renegade, but as we're artists who buy + renovate places, we felt pretty inspired by this place and it's neighboring property, the Fireside Motel (defunct now but google the image). We put this place and Fireside Motel on our list of properties to buy if we ever have the money. Terrific place - would come out of our way from SF just to stay here - only drawbacks are the view of Holiday Inn and the road noise. We paid $69 for a double bed on a Monday night. The only other people we saw while here was another couple checking in with their little one. If there were homeless or shady people anywhere around here, they must have hid.
