Wife and I stayed at Holm House for 3 nights over the early May bank holiday weekend.
The hotel is really beautiful - the public rooms, and our bedroom were truly lovely. The whole place feels very luxurious, with great attention to detail, and quality everywhere - Jo Malone products, the Wedgewood china, etc., etc. Also, great location - went into Cardiff on the train from Penarth for the day and also wandered around Penarth itself (small but quite sweet seaside town).
We also used the hydro-therapy pool and were the only ones in there. It was a great treat and the is room covered in slate and looks fantastic too. We also both had spa treatments and these were amazing - we both fell asleep, it was so relaxing.
The food was generally good too - great breakfasts and my wife liked dinner each night - she had fabulous meals. This was my only real disappointment - I am vegetarian and the menu had nothing on it as a main course for me, and worse than that I was made to feel as though I was a bit of an inconvenience - which was a real surprise to me (in this day and age and given the standard of the hotel). I was surprised that the menu did not have a single vegetarian main course listed or even just say 'vegetarian dish of the day'. On the first night I was surprised about this and the fact that there was nothing listed; however, the chef did arrange something for me and the head waiter did check how long we were staying for so that the chef could plan something for the other 2 nights. However, each night was the same - the head waiter seemed surprised each evening that I was still vegetarian.
That said - the other elements of the hotel made up for this and we would consider going back.
