“Very nice accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

Our 5-person family stayed on the new third floor of the hotel and found it very modern and clean. They also provided complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The pool was clean and a good size for kids. Super view atop the hill, with Mt. Rushmore in the distance. It was a quiet stay as well. Frankly, I have read the reviews on here and find most of the negative ones very petty. For example, if you are there for the wi-fi, then you are missing the point of being in rural SD!! This is a solid place to stay and is conveniently close to everywhere. Our host, Randy, was very pleasant and helpful. Our card keys worked just fine and the maids were helpful too. This is a nice hotel that easily competes with Holiday Inn, Howard Johnson, etc.

The staff was friendly, Randy was great help! I was traveling from MI to MT and stopped for the night. I was able to get a room without having a reservation, which was awesome since I was traveling with my dog! Extremely pet friendly, with a fenced in dog run behind the building. Quick walk to the shops and town, great views of the Black Hills, and minutes from the monument.

On a recent trip to Mount Rushmore we were in need of a place to spend a couple of nights. We did not have reservations. There were a couple of people ahead of me at the registration desk, so I waited and waited. Finally Clarence ask if he could assist me. He was very polite and answered all of our questions, we were advised the rooms were ready (this was at 4PM), Wrong, they were just in the process of starting to clean the rooms. There were so many young people going in and out of a number of rooms, cleaning them, that we did not feel comfortable leaving our stuff in the room until it was completely ready. That took approx. 30 mins. so we stood in the hall and watched. That night we came back to the Hotel, had a question about coffee, decaf, (supposedly available 24 hrs a day) Clarence was very curt with his answer. The next morning, No coffee, no coffee maker in the room and we had to make our own coffee. This was at 7:00 AM, when Clarence was ask about no coffee he stated " I just woke up and I made 51 gal yesterday. The hotel is nice and conveniently located to the town of Keystone, SD, the rates are good but the staff needs a little fine tuning.

Room Tip: Request the second floor or higher for a great view of Mount Rushmore.

I had stayed here years ago right after they opened, but did not remember much except the nice pool for the kids. This time the kids are grown, and I wanted a comfortable nights sleep priority. Unfortunately the bed was HARD and the pillows foam, the air conditioner noisy, so we decided to cut our planned stay short. The staff was very efficient and well trained, and the clerk processing our early check out was polite. We had a handicap accessible room, which was very small and cramped. The bed was supposedly a queen, but it seemed small. There is free coffee in the lobby, but no coffee maker in the room. The walk to town is down a steep driveway, so drive to town if climbing hills is not your favorite. Unfortunately Keystone has limited parking. We would have liked flowers in the window box instead of cigarette butts.

Room Tip: The non-handicap accessible rooms appear to be larger. The handicap parking outside the handicap ro...

the room is tiny, small pool, NO wi-fi reception in the rooms, the price on the sign is $49.95 we were charged $110., parking lot is crowded, staff is not well trained in customer service & you have to have them reactivate your keycard everyday what an inconvenience! on the good note it's a clean hotel, microwave & fridge, ac, hairdryer, & tv in room, free coffee & close to attractions & boardwalk.

Great view. Rooms comfortable. Met expectations. Nothing spectacular except the view. Poor value for the money. Check in slow. No coffee in room had to go to lobby. Arcade closed down. Pool constantly being shut down for problems. Maintenance seemed to be a little lacking as well as cleanliness was lacking.
