“Lots of steps, but well worth the walk!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

As the main trail around Mount Rushmore, this is a hard one to pass up. It takes you by the Artist's Workshop to view the large model of the mountain, and up to see Mount Rushmore from a different vantage point. While there are a lot of steps, this trail is a loop, so you only have to walk them once! I can't imagine doing this one with a stroller, might be more fun with kids that are big enough to walk it on their own. We "hiked" this trail on July 3, it was HOT! While it isn't all that long of a walk, water and comfortable shoes are a good idea. We got some GREAT pictures on this trail.

“Well maintained.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

Trail is well maintained and the ranger staffed stops are extremely informative. I was struck by the enthusiasm of the ranger staff, their patience with the kids' questions, and their extensive knowledge. This visit should be required for every American.

“Easy trail, with moderate paved steps”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Part of the trail is hanidcap accessible, while the full loop becomes some incline steps. Great way to see the monument from different angles.

“Nice walk, then somewhat difficult climb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

I did research, so I knew to go to the left trail (while looking at the monument straight on) its a nice stroll. Then I got brave and we decided to go all the way around including the more strenuous part. I learned I am even more out of shape than I thought! A lot of stairs going down at first, not a problem.......but what goes down, must go back up. Luckily it has a lot of nice places to sit.....and breathe :) The best reward was a buffalo burger at the eating place there and a cream soda. YUMMY! Really had a great day there. No fee for the Monument, but a $11.00 parking fee that lasts, I believe, 1 whole year!

“Don't miss walking the Presidential Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

The Presidential trial is a great walk to see the intricate details of the carvings. Also, the trail takes you to the Sculptures Studio which is very interesting.
