As a handicapped person I was concerned whether I could make the walk. Only half the trail was open that day which fortunately for me was the wheelchair friendly side on the left. With all the stairs on the right side of the trail I never would have made it. Wish now I had heard more of the ranger talks on the route. What I heard at one of the stops was very interesting. Everyone should take a ranger talk trip. Wish I could have made it down to the sculpture's studio. If there was handicap access it wasn't obvious how to get down there. Found this link when researching Mount Rushmore http://www.untraveledroad.com/Tour/USA/SouthDakota/Pennington/Rushmore?w=20W It was great for showing me in pictures what I would be up against trying to get around the area with a walker. take a look here before you go.
