“Basic and fair”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

Do not expect a full service hotel in this area. Most of the places just offer a bed and shower. This lodge looks rather good from the outside, but appeared to be very basic inside. Nothing wrong for a one night stay. Cleanness is open for improvement as well as the bed linen and the plumbing. Sleeping at the first floor turned out to be noisy, for one can hear every step in the room above. The lodge has no dining facilities (anyway a challenge in Ashford) and breakfast is plain continental, including the paper trays and plastic cutlery. Having seen what is offered elsewhere in Ashford, I think this might be the best offer.

We arrived at the Nisqually Lodge before check-in time, around 1:30pm. When we arrived, members of our group were needing to use the restroom, however when we tried to check-in we were harshly told we were early to check-in and there are NO public restrooms. If the fact that the Nisqually did not have at least one multi-gender restroom was not upsetting enough the lack of care from the owners and harsh reaction left me feeling like I was being scolded. Definitely NOT something you want to feel as a customer. The little things matter and the Nisqually Lodge staff were less than amicable. There is no elevator so request a room on the first floor if you can't climb stairs. The rooms are decent. Not as nice as a best western or holiday inn but appeared clean and the beds were comfortable. That being said the rooms are outdated, but since I was only staying there in preparation of a summit climb to the top of mt. rainier I didn't really mind. The continental breakfast is also mediocre but runs pretty similar to any other complimentary buffet type breakfast. Cheap ingredients = cheap low quality food but I survived!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor if you don't want to drag your bags up the stairs. Also, ask f...

Certainly on the low-end of the scale, but probably one of the better options in the Ashford area, given the relative scarcity of hotels. On the plus side, the service was nice enough, the room was a decent size, and the location was good, between "downtown" Ashford and the park entrance. Cleanliness was less than stellar, however, and the whole place felt run-down. Our room was on the first floor near the common area, so it was easy to hear loud children running around after "quiet hours" (while the staff sat nearby saying nothing).

We were extremely pleased with our one night stay here, after a room at another nearby lodging did not work out (too small).

The staff was very friendly and welcoming, the appearance of the lodge outside and in very comfortable and appropriate for the area, the location excellent, and the large room overlooking the forest very quiet. The amenities were satisfactory, and even included a flashlight, presumably in case of power outages.

The breakfast was very good and filling. This is a good thing, because we hiked up the mountain, and had a very late lunch after coming back down.

We do recommend this lodging.

Room Tip: Our room in the back overlooking the forest was very pleasant and quiet.

Nisqually lodge was a quiet, restful stop for the 4 of us visiting Mt Rainier National Park over Labor Day weekend. The couple managing the lodge are brand new (as of mid August) and greeted everyone with a big smile. Problems referred to in previous posts appear to be fixed. The room rate includes a continental breakfast (with waffle irons!) .

The decor is not extravagant but you should find the lodge organized, neat, clean and quiet. There are several restaurants or bars in the area where lunch or dinner can be found. Nisqually Lodge is a short drive from the Ashford entrance to the park and the last chance for groceries and gasoline for some little ways. The cell service is spotty at best but the lodge does have free password protected wi-fi.

We just had a 2 night stay at Nisqually Lodge. Check in was fast and cordial. Room was clean, sparsely furnished, new frig and microwave, bathroom was dated but clean, no mold! We had 2nd floor room which looked out into woods. Located within a short driving distance to Mt. Rainier park entrance.

Unfortunately, breakfast left a bit to be desired. First morning there was no milk and napkin supply was depleted. When the front desk staff was repeatedly asked for milk by many guests, response was, "milk is in owner's apt and they are sleeping (this was as late as 9am!). Some guests had small children, which made breakfast difficult for them. We can only believe this staff person had been reprimanded for waking the owners previously, hence their refusal to get milk from owner apt. Be aware, their were 3 people at the front desk, and a general store was less than 1 mi down the road (we noted later in the day). No thinking "outside the box" to solve this issue. There was also no cream for the coffee, only powdered substitute.

Considering local options, this was good quality for the price. We were not in need of any assistance with directions, however we noted when other guests asked for directions, the front desk person was not helpful, and apparently unwilling to look info up on the computer for these guests. There were no maps available or even simple directions to local places.

We dined at the Paradise Lodge the first night, after a short hike. Food okay, $$ for quality. Second night front desk recommended "Wildberry's" restaurant on Rt 706, Himalayan food, very good and plentiful, very good service.

The husband and wife team managing the lodge added a personal homey feel to our stay. Located just five miles from Mt. Rainier made the location perfect. Restaurants in Ashford were a bit pricey. The Lodge breakfast was average but the eating area was inviting.
