“Lovely & Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2010

Shipton under Wychwood isn't the first place you'd of think to stay in the Cotswolds as it isn't in the middle of a classic tourist spot, but it is cute and has three places to get good food - one only a few hundred yards away which was picturesque with very good food and friendly service.

Jean and John were very friendly and helpful and were able to advise my parents and I on the best spots to see in the Cotswolds - They even found out the answer to one of our questions and left the book open at the right page for us to find at breakfast!! Those little extras really make a visit. And breakfast was lovely...my only problem was that I ate too much of it.

Being a more recently built property, it may not be the quaintest B&B in the Cotswolds, but it was great not to have to struggle up narrow creeky staircases and duck under beams! Also for a winter break the heating is top notch and there won't be any annoying draughts!! The rooms were ideal for us and although the bathroom in shared, the rooms are all just across from it off a small landing it was perfect.

This place is excellent value and comfortable. From Shipton under Wychwood you can easily access the rest of the Cotswolds attractions but still come home in the evening to a peaceful village with good food and drink a short walk away. And without the usual touristy hustle and bustle and the warm welcome from Jean and John I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2008

Have stayed in many B&B's over the years. On this occasion we were looking for a venue that could accommodate 6 adults in 3 rooms for one Saturday night within a short drive of a family gathering happening in Burford during the afternoon. We arrived as we stated between 5 - 6pm. There was room to park outside the house in the cul-de-sac as well as off road parking. Jean opened the door to us with a friendly smile and the offer of a cup of tea in the conservatory. We all went off to our rooms. Jean & John live on the premises and if they have 3 rooms wanted they give up their own bedroom to do it. My husband and I stayed in the twin bedded room which was plenty big enough, clean bright and warm (just as I like it). Whilst this is the room that isn't en-suite, as the other double room upstairs is the few steps across to the bathroom are not a problem. The other two bedrooms (one upstairs, the other down) are both double ensuites and are equally as clean and welcoming. Once we'd dropped off our stuff in our rooms we went to the conservatory where the tea AND FOX's BISCUITS awaited us. One of my aunts was already reading through walking books that Jean had made available when we reached the conservatory and offered to scan and print out any page to be able to do one of the walks the next day. She did highly recommend the garden Centre nearby too, but we didn't make it there. After drinking tea, eating biscuits and chatting in the conservatory we did go out to a very nice pub called the Shaven Crown within spitting distance - I can highly recommend that too. Meanwhile we had opted to have breakfast the next morning at 8.45 after being given the choice of times and started off with fruit salad, yoghurt and cereal in the dining room where we could all fit at the same table with ample of elbow room. We were not restricted to the amount of cereal, fruit etc we wanted and helped ourselves. We had to decide the night before on whether we wanted sausages & bacon so as Jean could defrost the right amount. Our cooked breakfasts were smashing. The best that I can think of having had in a B&B. Had we had wanted more of anything it would have been served with a smile without restrictions. My only hesitation would be whether I should be mentioning this is a great place to stay for fear of not being able to get the availability the next time we want to stay! I doubt we'd have got this service or welcome had we have stayed in a 5 star hotel charging double

  • Liked — The welcome, and offer of tea in the conservatory
  • Disliked — Can't think of anything negative
