We booked a table for 14 people for te evening before my daughter and son in-laws wedding.
We made a good choice- the staff could not have looked after us any better. The food was lovely, hot and served very well.We had a wonderful evening and when in the same are would not hesitate to go there again and again

“Great Food & Fab Service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Hubby and I went here for a "date night" last week. The food was fabulous and Hubby's steak was cooked to perfection (he hates it being over-cooked). The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was relaxed. I'm looking forward to going again soon!

“Family favourite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We have eaten here with our 2 pre-teenage children a handful of times on a Sunday early evening. We are always surprised at how quiet it is because the food is delicious and the service is great. We are pleased with the menu selections and the children usually have a starter portion of mussels rather than a whole main meal. The children's menu is much like any other...burger, sausage, tomato pasta etc. I would say the service isn't super-quick...But if you're enjoying a good meal with family you shouldn't rush it anyway. As a guide, we generally spend about £80 and that's 3 courses and drinks.

“A nice range of fairly good food, sadly let down by the speed of service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Cafe Rouge is a popular chain restaurant and a quick search online will show you the menu consists of a reasonable range of French fare. It's well positioned in the middle of town with parking nearby.

The food itself was fairly good - not groundbreaking by any means, but for £10-15 for a main you're hardly expecting Michelin star chefs (if you are then steer clear). Steaks were cooked fairly well but a little overdone in the case of those who had asked for them on the rare side. The starters were quite nice and the portion size was also just right.

Despite pre-ordering, our group was waiting for 30 minutes for starters to arrive, then a further 30 minutes for the mains. I'd point out that the service itself was friendly and accommodating - but I think the speed with which the kitchen were preparing the meals was what let them down. Drinks were ordered, forgotten, yet appeared on the bill, so you should make sure you know who's had what when you ask "l'addition, s'il vous plait".

Worth a try but I'd suggest that couples and small groups may fare better here than larger groups when it comes to service - this is certainly what I have found after three visits.

“Nice lunch menu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Large seated restuarant in the town centre - nice to pop in for lunch or a light bite at the weekend. Recommend the cafe rouge house steak for a dinner - worth the money and get garlic butter too - yum yum! Always been a favourite place for a nice meal - You can often get online vouchers too!
