“Terrific brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

We loved everything about it: the selection, the preparation, the service, the setting. The brunch menu is posted in the restaurant website.

“Rod's is the place”

For good steaks and great service at a high cost.
Good bar and music often playing in the background.

“Overpriced, but solid option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

We stayed in the hotel and ate dinner here that evening. The food and wine were unjustifiably expensive in my view. I like to have a glass of champagne as an aperitif, but my Swiss banker was not available to make a wire transfer to cover the cost. On the positive side, our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive, and the food itself was well-prepared. The pastry chef is particularly talented - I had a very interesting carrot cake which I recommend.

“And the Train has arrived”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

Here is a hotel situated on beautiful grounds in Madison NJ, with a steak house that has beautiful plates of food. The ambiance is old world, and although it could be spruced up a bit, is still very charming. THey also have a restaurant attached by the name of GK's Red Dog Tavern that does not take reservations but probably serves from the same kitchens, and is a lot less formal.
More importantly is the food.
My wife and I ordered the clams on the half shell and their sampler to start. I started with the clams, and they were fresh but a bit on the warmer side. They could have been colder.
We then ordered the steaks, the Keller cut which was a New York and my wife thought it was reall great, she got a side of Macaroni and Cheese which was not only plentiful but the way it should be served the old fashion way. I order the Cahrred Delmonico and it was a superb piece of meat well done and the sauce was also wonderful.. TO top it off we has a cheese cake and a chocolate cream cake that were both delicious.
The service was fine and I would add the cost is about $200 with tip for two, so you can place it in the category of $$$.. I would go back for the food.

“Good specials, unremarkable entrees”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

In keeping with the Madison Hotel, which it adjoins, this restaurant is convenient if you're staying at the Madison -- nothing else within a reasonable walk that I know of. Like the hotel, it has a genteel old club atmosphere. Service is impecable, but what is served is good enough, but nothing to write home about. This would be a reasonable place to meet with a client at the hotel. Not outrageously noisy with all the padded surfaces. I got a salmon dish, which sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. It was good, but not memorable at $24. A special beet salad with pistachios fared better -- very good and interesting taste combination. You won't be disappointed here - certainly not with the attentive service, but you won't rave about the food, either.
