The Virginia Court is an attractive Victorian former club in a delightful conservation area in Cromer. It's main demographic is the elderly so it rather has the ambience of an old folks home. The accommodation (room 3) was a little small with quite a small bed but OK. Food was also OK, we stopped for 2 days & on the 1st morning I had the kipper, absolutely delicious. However 2nd morning there were no kippers left. You could still smell them, but because they were so good everyone wanted them, we weren't the only disappointed customers.
The point I'm making here, is that if the Virginia Court was a cheap hotel then no kippers is understandable, however this hotel charges a premium, so no kippers is unacceptable, & Cromer is next to the North Sea which is teeming with kippers (yes I know they're herring).
The Virginia Court isn't a bad hotel or a fantastic hotel, it's just average

As you have mentionmed the hotel is a converted former Victorian Club House. as such each of our bedrooms vary in size, style and design bringing a unique feel to the hotel compared to some well known chain hotels where all the rooms are identical!
We do have a limited number of king sized double beds in larger rooms which are allocated on a first come first serve basis, should you prefer this for a future stay please do not hesitate to ask at the time of booking but please rest assured that all our regular double beds are the UK standard 4 foot 6inches. Other rooms such as the one you occupied benefit from a view over the gardens which are very popular with a lot of our repeat guests.
We pride ourselves on our Taste of Norfolk breakfast, which has been awarded the VisitEngland breakfast award for the last 3 years, including 2013! All of the produce is sourced locally including the grilled to order breakfast ingredients, fresh baked bread and of course the popular smoked kippers.
A small independent fish shop in Cromer (Jonas Fish Shop) supply our smoked kippers, they smoke the kippers themselves in their 150 year old smoke house. As you have experienced they are a real luxury for breakfast whilst staying on the Norfolk coast. The popularity and high demand for the smoked kipper does mean on some mornings we find ourselves sold out and the kipper supplier can struggle to stay on top of demand for this local delicacy.
We apologise you could not have your preferred breakfast choice on both mornings of your stay however we hope you enjoyed your alternative choice.
I am sorry you felt we were expensive however if you compare our prices with the other 3 star hotels in town you will see that we are competitively priced. As a seaside resort most of the years trade takes place during the summer months, better value rates can be found during the months of October - May. We do take all comments on board and use them to help us improve our guest experience wherever possible.
We look forward to seeing you in Cromer in the future!
