“Wanted it to be good but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Arrived at the hotel at 3am. We were given a room with just a double bed, when there were 3 of us. By 4.30 we were still waiting to be sorted. Apparently the hotel was full and there were no spare beds!!
The hotel was clean on arrival but during our stay it looked as if the hotel was struggling to cope and we saw a downward spiral . The public toilets were rarely sorted. The area around the children's pool was not cleaned.
The bar staff were very rude, especially towards women.
Ovacik is a lovely area of turkey but we will not return to this hotel.

First of all, we had rather high expectations for this hotel as it had some of the best reviews i have read prior to booking. We are a couple in our 20's who are easily pleased, but cant help but feel somewhat let down by this hotel.

Rooms: Smallish with a hard bed, OK shower room. We however had a ground floor room underneath the pool area so no views from the tiny balcony except for maintenance people wandering around. The room ALWAYS smelt like stale water and sometimes even sewerage when we returned in the late afternoon. Walls were paper thin so noise could be heard from rampaging kids in the hallway and the evening entertainment. No English TV except for news channels. Only 2 small bottles of water in fridge every day. Room was cleaned well by maids who were smiley and friendly.

Food: Good (for an All Inclusive). Fairly varied and can suit everyone. Chips served at every single course (including breakfast) for those scared of eating abroad.

Staff: Cleaners and Lobby staff were Good. Pool bar staff are the worse we've experienced in Turkey - never a smile, never seemed happy, half full glasses.

Pool Area: Only 3 parasols around the main pool - what a Joke. There are large shaded areas, but which families/couples all want to be in the sun/shade at the same time?? Our first day we woke up accidentally late at 10AM to find NOT ONE sunbed free around the main pool - thankfully there were some around the kids pool - which does have around 4 small parasols. Sometimes people were putting towels out at 2am!! And they are Brits, not Germans!

Location: About 15mins walk to the main town of Hisaronou. Miles from the beach. I must recommend a Barber for a Turkish Shave (10TL/£3.50) - Go up the hill outside the hotel, and turn right, around the 5th small shop in the right. Id also recommend the 'Shine' indian restraunt in Hisarounou - on the left just before it becomes pedestrians only - best curry i've ever had!

Cleanliness: The pool area wasn't cleaned well enough in my opinion, especially around the bar, with cigarette ends and spilt drinks not being cleaned up. There were plenty of stale water and drinks smells all over the place. The restaurant was fairly clean but not great.

Animation Team: Great - everyone from Adults to Kids were very well entertained.

We tried to book a late checkout, and were told to ask on our day of departure. On that day we were refused due to the hotel being full - be careful of this. Thankfully they do have a few shower rooms to freshen up before the flight which we had to book.

Hotel was around 75% English and 25% Turkish (Partly due to Eid) - its probably about 90% English usually.

On the whole Families will enjoy this hotel a lot more as there are lots of kids to entertain each other. If you are a couple, i would avoid.

PS. Don't fly with Thomas Cook - Outbound, all flights at the airport left on time EXCEPT for ALL 3 Thomas Cook planes. Surprise surprise we were delayed returning home also.

Room Tip: Not ground floor!

On arrival were given our allocated room family suite, above the restaurant.
Going into the restaurant for breakfast the next morning, we noticed that the restaurant door behind the cake station was not clean which did not give a very good impression, after 10 days this was not cleaned once. We also noticed that in some areas of the restaurant corners near the windows very dirty and grubby. Again not want you accept from a 4 star hotel. I can say the food served was of a very high standard which gives the hotel 4 star rating, on one occasion I found a black hair in the Turkish bread in the snack bar, I gave this to the head chef and his reply sorry, the tray of food wasn't taken away to be checked.
After 4 days I had to go and find the cleaner to ask to have our bathroom cleaned as not cleaned since arrival. Twice had to call reception to ask for more toiletries as not replaced when used. On the 2nd last day the maid turned up at 9.00am, as we were still sleeping we asked for them to return later, this did not happen.
As mentioned in previous reviews the sunbed situation was a joke!! Towels been put on beds at 2.00am, I think the reason for this is the lack of parasols around the pool area, total of 3 in temperatures over 40 degrees.
Entertainment team work very hard all day but do think the evening entertainment could be longer as most nights it finished at 10.30ish.
On our day of departure we went to reception to ask to keep our room until departure time, this wasn't possible, we then booked a hour slot to use the courtesy room. When we went to collect our luggage from our room at 11.30, we were unable to get into our room due to the room key not working, my husband went to find the cleaner and was told that our holiday had finished. We tried to explain on 3 occasions that our luggage was in the room but kept informing us that our holiday was finished, finally opened the door. My understanding is that you have your room until midday.
Would not return to the hotel.

just back from the Aes club, had a great time, but there are some things that need urgent attention like the public toilets that were like a ice skating ring most of the time due to a wet floor also the soap dispensers always seem to be empty. never saw any cleaners go in them. The pool area was nice but they really need sun umbrellas as there were only 4 large ones. Ice creams are also not in the inclusive package so can be costly in the shop on site if your child likes to eat them. Entertainment team and evening shows were very good, and this might be why its a 4 star as the team all work hard. i would recommend this hotel as it one of the better ones in Ovacik but could be even better!

Room Tip: Rooms are good but if you are over 6ft in height make sure you are not in a attic room as the roof i...

This hotel is really nice. It is clean, carefully thought out and has every amenity for those that like to take root! (not me, I hasten to add!) The only downside is the selfish laying down of towels on sunbeds at the crack of dawn for those who don't have the imagination to go exploring the beautiful surrounding areas. I notice some reviews suggesting that the staff are not very friendly and I would say, to imagine going to work in Turkey and not having a good grasp of Turkish! The employees are natives, so good on the management for employing the locals, and good for them being out of their comfort zone and trying their best to speak English! I much prefer that approach than having waiters hanging round, interfering with your mealtime inorder to get a tip.
I notice that the shops like pounds very much because of the favourable exchange rate but I stuck to Lira for exactly that reason
. I recommend Pioneer travel's trip to the mud baths. The host was totally bonkers and creates a fabulous day for all. The Turkish people adore children and go out of their way to entertain and involve them.
For people who declare the food a bit 'samey', my recommendation would be not to eat every dish at every sitting. It is not obligatory to eat your body weight in food just because you are all inclusive! The food was well prepared and plentiful and I certainly didn't have the same thing more than once.
Fethiye Market is well worth a visit but don't insult by offering silly money. Decide what a product is worth to you and don't be greedy. The Turkish people are a kind and friendly nation who work very hard and are proud of their products. It was good to hear them actually telling buyers to get lost when they were offering insulting amounts for goods that would cost 4-5 times as much at home.
The little dollmuss service is fabulous from ovacik to fethiye or to hisoronu and olu deniz in the other direction. 8 lira took 3 people from Ovacik to Olu Deniz (about £ 2. 75) You literally stick your hand out when you see one and cram yourselves on!
I would recommend this hotel to both families and singles. Anti child couples too but not in the school holidays!!

Room Tip: We had two attic rooms, fabulous rooms if a little small for more than two people. Not big balcony b...

just come back from the aes hotel. well i was disapointed with this hotel, the room was in the atic, although very clean it was small, my husband banged his head 3 times on the low sloping ceiling the 3rd time nearly knocking himself out. The food was ok, and the same every day. The bar is located outside the hotel in the pool area so around the pool is very busy as there is nowhere eles to sit in the hotel, unless you sit in the reception, theres no bar here or pool tables or anything of interest. The bar staff were miserable and never offered a smile; we went out 3 nights out of 7 just for something different as the entertainment was boring at times. we did go in the hotel facing this hotel, which was called the orka hotel, the barstaff at this hotel were very friendly and always had a smile for you, the hotel was very big had 3 pools, inside and outside eating areas, a bar outside and inside, all in all this was by far more superia to the aes. would not return the aes small unfriendly hotel wasnt sorry to come home.

Room Tip: ask for lower floors as top floor atic rooms are small, and you are at risk of knocking yourself out...

Arrived mid July, good impression of hotel, nice reception area, cool and nice greeting. We were a family of 5, and a family of 4 so booked two family rooms.Showed to our nice rooms only to discover none of the rooms had balconies, which on booking we had payed extra for. Complained only to be told hotel was full and rooms with balconies would be available 3 days later. Checked these rooms and were not big enough for a family of 4 let alone 5. Declined offer to move. My gripe is they shouldn't offer you to pay extra for the balconies rooms and not be able to provide as we could have saved £185 if we had booked the rooms we ended up with. Entertainment team fantastic, special mention to Sophie, Cihan and Charlie who unfortunately left halfway through our holiday. Food excellent, choice for everyone, including some fussy Brits looking for chips. Omelettes in the morning superb. I don't mind getting up early so sunned situation not too much of a problem, but if you like a lie in dont think you can get 3 sun beds together. Went on jeep safari long day but great day out. Went on boat trip, had our own boat what a great time had by all, and great value. Tip of the day buy from shops less hassle than market and just as cheap.
