“Great for families!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Travelled here on the 8th of august for our first travel to turkey. We arrived here early hours of the morning, and porter took are bags to our room. which was number 624 on the 6th floor. This hotel defiantly gave us a great first impression of icmeler. This hotel owners part of the beach, and is an excellent location. The rooms are a little dated with towels being changed every 2 days, but anyway, how much time do you spend in your rooms anyway? As long as they are spotlessly clean , what is there to be worried about? Also, everybody seems to be complaining about the food in this hotel, but honestly, the food is great! Apart from at breakfast when they have beans, scrambled eggs and sausages on separate days. The juices also, are like squash. Also if you like to train in the gym, don't go expecting a fitness first! It is over basic with a treadmill, excersie bike and a few weights. You cant stay all inclusive here, but there is a restaurant onsite here, where you can order by the pool or there are lots of restaurants and bars 5 minuets walk away.
If you want a sunbed by the pool, be prepared to get up at 6- 7 AM, however if not, there are always plenty on the beach... The pool is great, and a good size , were you wouldn't get that in many other icmeler hotels. There is a large pink slide and a smaller bumpy slide, great for kids and families! One of the main downfalls is that the slides close in the lunch hour of the day, but the pool stays open. The cleaners, waiters and chefs always have a smile on their faces and are very friendly, however the reception staff are sometimes quite rude! Also the air con is £7 pounds extra per day, which is expensive, but if you book with the hotel direct, its all included! They don't have much entertainment on in the hotel, but have a weekly Turkish and comedy night which are good. But don't be disappointed, as there are alot of fun pubs in icmeler too. A great tip to keep in mind is always bring English money, as lots of places accept this too!
This hotel is more like a 3 star, but would award it 4 for the following reasons- stunning views and location, great pool, great food, very clean and great for families, and would defiantly stay here again, and recommend to a friend!

You can watch my video of the whole hotel at

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 3rd floor +, great views, Always take English money...

I am sorry to say this about the golmar as we had 2 weeks at the golmar 2 years ago and it was great, hence the return!!

what can i say the only people who had a smile on their face was the cleaners who cleaned your room, and a couple of security guards ,

when we arrived early hours of the morning ,the people behind the reception could just about smile then went on to sell us the aircon for £7.00 a day ,and you had to pay for a safe and fridge as well, so(£120.00) 400.20 tr lighter we made our way to our room.

the room was basic but that was not a concern to be honest as we had stayed before and who spends that much time in their room.

the fun and games started the next morning, NO sunbeds around the pool or on the beach which was a big surprise to us from the last time ,it looks like you have to get up at 6 am to put a towel on the beds around the pool area and 7-8 am for the beach ,not my idea of a holiday!!

We spoke to a few people who have been going to the golmar for many years and they even said they would not return again, what ever has happened to the managment at the golmar it will cost you your reputation and money.

the main issues were

1, the beach was covered in cigarette ends.
2, hard to get a sunbed unless you got up at early hours of the morning.
3, the staff at the hotel do not even acknowledge the guest’s (except the room cleaners and a couple of security guards).
4, the air con and fridge and safe are a total rip-off.

will never book again.

To sum up: dirty, old, miserable staff. Don't do it !!!! Not good. Food rubbish. Very rude staff. Everything falling apart and held together with tape. Minging manky carpets with dirty linen. Same menu every night for a week. Lifts always breaking down. Electrics not safe.

Parts of this hotel were fabulous and others were not so good. On arrival in the early hours of the morning, we checked in with a very grumpy, non English speaking young girl. The hotel reception is not air conditioned so it was very hot an unwelcoming. We got the lift to the 5th floor (where it ends) but we had to walk up steps to the 6th floor where our room was located. It was not a problem for us but if stairs are a problem ensure you get a room on floors 1 - 5. The room was spacious (there were 4 of us in our party 2 adults and 2 teenagers) but very dated. The radio didn't work, The tv was very temperamental - sometimes we could watch, sometimes not but we are not on holiday to watch tv so not too much of a problem. The lift kept breaking down and several times there was a power cut on our floor. Our room was serviced everyday, but all that happened was that the beds were made and the bathroom cleaned. The carpet (which was a bit stained) was hoovered on the penultimate day of our 14 nights stay! I think that because we were on the top floor and the cleaners started at the bottom and worked their way up, and would have had to carry all cleaning materials/hoovers up the stairs from the 5th to the 6th floor that they didn't bother. The breakfasts were fine, but more suited to German/Dutch visitors with copious amount of cheese and meats. The evening meals were OK but we ate out some nights and they were much better. The staff with a few exceptions (Ali and two of the chefs at meal times on soup and meat) seemed to be very young and not very interested in their jobs. Most of them were in their own t-shirts and tracksuit bottoms or shorts so it was hard to tell who was staff and who was a guest. Sometimes staff wore hotel t-shirts but not always - perhaps it was because it was peak time and they had drafted in extra locals to help. The children's play area was a bit disappointing with weeds growing - not for us we didn't need it but with half a days tidying up it could have been a nice space.

Good points - the pool was great with lots of shade if you wanted it. However some mornings all the sunbeds were gone by 7.30. I am sure some people put their towels out the night before! The beach was fabulous and again lots of umbrellas for shade if you needed it. These beds didn't go quite so quickly - you have an extra hour or so! Food and drink served round the pool was of a good standard and we were looked after by Ali who is certainly an asset to the hotel. The location of the hotel is good if you want to be away from things a bit, being right on the end of the strip but in easy walking distance to the bars and shops. The buses are fabulous if you want to go further afield they stop right outside the hotel and are very cheap. We went on the hotel's own boat trip which was excellent and good value. Free wifi in reception so in the evenings it was full of people.

Overall we had a great time but with just a few tweaks here and there an average hotel could be a great one.

Second time to Golmar this summer, the first time we went in june. This time it was high season and with a lot more people around, but there was always beachbed available and also in first line to the sea if you go before 8.30. (I do not know about the pool area we did not go there) More turkish people stayed at the hotell this time, maybe travelling from Germany and England, very nice and polite they were and it was quite interesting to be around turkish tourist at the beach and in the restaurant. The rest of the guest were also nice which gives the hotel a nice atmosphere. And the resepsionists are very friendly and professional (I had an argue on how to pay the bill and they were very calm and friendly in this argue). The haircutter (according to my daugter), cleaning ladies , supermarket staff are all very friendly. The men who carry the suitcase, very friendly and every time I saw them saying hello first. The staff at the restaurant are not unfriendly like some rewiers say, but it looks like they lack some exsperience, if you smile first they open up. Staff from the kitchen are very friendly and joking when they supply with food at the buffe or when they are at the beach restaurant. Expensive soda water (4 lira small glass and 8 lira big glass) is a bit strange, but it is not expencive compared to prices at home. Beer, coke and water is normal priced.

This time it was high season and was some noise from load motorbikes and scouters from the road behind the hotel, but despite this I give the location top score. The kid saw three dolphines from the balcony one day, so they rushed down to the harbour and was invited into one of the taxiboats so they could come closer to the dolphines. With this great view we all spend some time every day at the balcony.

My son at the age of 14 went one day with the Paradise diving boat from Marmaris and took this certificate where you can dive for until 12 meters with an assistent. This I recommand to everybody having teenagers. Very professional they were at the Paradise diving boat, with good equipment and very nice atmosphere on the boat, I recommand them, the diver instructurs name was Yildirim Arican. Do not go to the Barracuda diving boat in Icmeler they had wornout wet suits, beginners went down without wetsuits and since beginners had to lie down at the bottom and wait they got scraped up by stones. The Barracuda boat gave very short dives, 20 minutes for the first dive and 10 for the second dive my son got), probably because there were a lack in breathing equipment on the boat compared to the people diving. The man selling drinks on the Barracuda boat was a hassel, unfriendly if you did not by something to drink all the time. If you go on the Paradise diving boat you pay 80 lira for two 30 minutes dive (my son was down at least 40 minutes his second dive) this is 20 lira more than on the Barracuda boat but you get what you pay for. The 12 meter diving license cost ektra but is not expencive.

We have just returned, what an amazing time we had..We stayed in room 625(6th floor) and I would say this was one of the best views.Room was dated but clean and spacious, 5 english tv channels and hair dryer..pool with slides was so much fun, although expect to be up putting your towel out between 6-7 to guarantee a sunbed! Lots of free sunbeds onthe beach..we stayed alf board, I was expecting the worse for breakfast after reading some of the reviews so I was pleasantly surprised, lots to choose from just dont expect your full English!evening meal was good lots ofchoice, we did eat out a couple of times. 5 coarse meal for 30 lira (tenner!) at Amigos lovely food and great entertainment...Staff at meal times at The Golmer were very miserable which was a shame but in you local bars staff were very friendly, lovely people.we had lots of laughs..we went on the Jeep Safari which the kids (12 and 5) thoroughly enjoyed just don't buy the DVD, waste of money..also book through the agents up the road a lot cheaper £35 for the four of us..we also went to the mud baths and turtle island, a lovely day but very long..we got a better exchange rate at the banks up the road, I would defo recommend taking English money and getting it changed there although many places take sterling too..We met some lovely people and had an amazing time and would defo return to Golmer again but self catering or bb next time..

Room Tip: 6th amazing views especially room 625..take English money much better rates out there.

Golmar - first time in Turkey and had a great time! loved icmeler, it was perfect as it wasn't to busy but still had lots going on. fantastic location on the beach and just a 5 minute stroll from the busy bars and restaurants. Hotel has its own beach which was great! if you want a sunbed by the pool you need to get a towel down early (7) so we didn't bother. Yes rooms are very dated but the location makes up for it. Rooms are cleaned every day. Air con is extra, but if you are lucky like we were we already had it until the last night! Had a couple of powercuts on the 6th floor and the shower seemed to not work great around 6-7. We stayed half board but didn't enjoy the food, so we ate out every night. The love boat is fantastic, great food and lovely staff. No hotel entertainment, not really a problem as every bar seems to have lots going on. Try the three bells Great atmosphere! Thomas cook rep was very helpful and friendly. We went to the market which is on a Wednesday, lots of stuff to buy but be really careful as you can get hassled. Which makes you not want to ask how much things are. If I was to visit turkey again I would definitely take English money as lots of places except this. I will be visiting again :)!!

Room Tip: Take English money!!!!
