“Mares - Grand Yazici end of September 2012”

Booked last minute due to my boyfriends works commitments so wasnt expecting a fantastic hotel especially the price we got it for (600pp) 1 week all inclusive & i had never fancied turkey but how shocked i was!

Arrived early hours sunday morning and amazed by the hotel even a friendly welcome at 5am in the morning. Our room was amazing view of the marmaris/icmeler bay and surroundings out of this world. Missed breakfast our first morning & as i'm not a brekfast person not to bothered but by lunch time was starved has lovely grilled chicken and pizza pittas. Overall food was 8/10 lots of choice with al a carte menus & even held a midnight snack in the main restaurant. Lots of places to sunbathe 2 pools and a couple of jetti's were we spent most of our time really enjoyed this added bonus at the hotel. Room was cleaned every day spotless. Entertainment wasnt the best at all but we spent most of our nights in icmeler of marmaris, Hotel is closer to icmeler town then marmaris can walk right along the front of the hotel to both. Had couple of nice meals out in marmaris chinese & a traditional turkish. Would highly recommend the boat trip really cheap and a lovely day out. For the last week in september the weather was unbelievable & to make the holiday even better i came back as a fiancee :) Overall amazing hotel and surroundings. Would definately book again, fab hotel, fab staff and the turkish people themselves are great!

The frustrating part about this hotel is that it could have very easily received 5 stars but its the constant little things that reduced its score!

We arrived at the hotel at 5:30am after a very long night, especially with 2 boys (9 & 10) who were very tired!! We had been told that the best part of the hotel was the main building as it was newly refurbished however on entering our 'family' room we found one big room with 2 single beds and a sofa - none were made ready for us!!
The porter then spent 10 minutes running around the hotel looking for sheets etc before retuning to make the beds and sofa bed for us. Unfortunately we found out very quickly that the sofa bed is designed for a dwarfs, I am only 5.7" and my feet hung off the sofa bed!!

As soon as we had taken a few hours sleep we spoke to reception and they very happily moved us to a new room - the service in dealing with this was excellent.
We were shown a villa on the other side of the hotel and despite all the feedback on Trip Advisor it was perfect. The decor was dated but we had 2 bedrooms including single beds for the children and a double bed for us. At this point my faith in the hotel had been restored and we were looking forward to a relaxing break.

Unfortunately what then started to let the hotel down were the little things as follows:
• I tripped and cut my foot on a nail sticking out of the artificial grass covered decking. On reporting this to the hotel nothing was ever done - this is despite me reporting it 3 times!!
• My son cut his foot whilst walking along the promenade and despite there being a doctor on site we were unable to get a plaster to cover the cut!!
• The main walkway alongside the pool had no matting and people were constantly slipping over - again this was despite other 'unused' areas having non slip matting.
• The pool bar had a sign showing all the drinks you could have however in reality you could only get beer or soft drinks - not a big issue as the other bars had other drinks but just a little frustrating.
• The pool bar would randomly close, on speaking to some member of staff about this they did not understand why.
• There was a sever lack of entertainment during the day or night - we appreciate that we were at the end of the season and there was about an hour each night in one of the bars but this was it. My children were very disappointed that there was no children entertainment.
• The food was very repetitive. Whilst there was a large selection it was all pretty much the same and as vegetarians we found it difficult to see what we could eat as most items had no labels on them. My son was actually informed that some food he was given had no meat in and on eating it found pieces of ham in!!
• There were 3 restaurants that required booking however it was difficult to get a table unless you booked 5 days in advance which seemed ludicrous since they were only using a fraction of the tables in the actuall restaurants!!
One of the restaurants that specialised in Turkish food also had burgers, salad, pasta and pizza – unfortunately on every day we went in there they could only offer burgers and chips, everything else was crossed off the menu. On one day they actually ran out of burgers, buns and salad and so all you could have were chips. I really didn’t think it would be hard to provision for burgers and chips but they seemed to manage it with ease!!
• The majority of the staff were friendly and helpful but you could tell it was the end of the season and they just wanted to get away!!
• One of the locks on the bedrooms was broken and my son was unable to get out of the room. Despite the hotels maintenance team attempting to open the door they could not get the door open – they even tried to take the handle and lock off the door and still could get in. In the end I was so concerned about by son that I smashed the door open in front of them and the hotel wanted me to pay for the damage!! This was despite a manger and 2 maintenance men not being able to open the door after over an hour!!

Overall we did have a good time and we will return to Turkey but as my opening said, its the little things that stopped this hotel getting a much better score. I would like to experience this in the peak of summer as I am sure it would be much better but I doubt I will return and can only mark on what I saw/experienced.

Came here with my wife & 3 children last year (Oct 2011) for school half term and loved it so much we booked again and stayed 20th - 27th October 2012. We paid about £1850 all inclusive for 5 of us. We booked both times with sunshine.co.uk flying from mcr and great value in my opinion.

Superb views and very well laid out hotel. We have stayed in the bungalows on both visits. Lovely pool and kids pool with slides. The food is pretty good with a wide choice and always something to our liking. There is a lovely beach side restaurant (CAMLIK) and a pizzeria which are particularly good. No booking needed for these for lunch but you do need to book in advance for evening (a la carte) and it is still all inclusive. There are several bars serviced by generally very frindly staff with very little queueing. There's also free WiFi which was a bit iffy this year(?)

The hotel is located on a tree-lined shaded costal path about 400 yards from Marmaris and I suppose a mile or so from Icmeler. Icemeler is lovely and a nice easy 25 minute walk and water taxi back for about £3 each (kids free).

The only disappointment this year was the lack of evening entertainment for the children. Most of the animation team had left as it was the end of the season. In fairness, the hotel was nowhere near full and there were not as many children asa there were last year. On the other hand, being late in the season, there was no problem finding sunbeds.

I do think that Turkish 5* is not to the same high standard as you would expect in other places but we have enjoyed our two visits and met a lot of lovely people which always helps.

Don't be fooled by the use of 'Grand' in the hotel name, or the five stars they purport to have, this is a dreadful hotel from beginning to end. Redeeming features? Large room, good size bed and nice balcony with a great view. All ruined by unconcerned, rude and unhelpful staff; nearly inedible food, air-con which, despite in-room controls, is central and switched off according to the date, not the weather; terrible, depressing decor; strong and unpleasant smell of damp and wallpaper falling off the walls in the bathroom and no seal on shower doors resulting in flooding not just the bathroom but most of the bedroom too. Oh, and very patchy wifi (but at least it's free).

We returned from the Mare Hotel 30th October 2012 after a very disapointing holiday over all.
Arriving late at night our rooms were in the older block, getting to the room gave cause for concern,cieling tiles dirty and stained, corridor carpet ripped in areas.
Room was large which was a surprise,but on entering could be seen had had better days,Aircon did not seem to work.
Bathroom was very poor, gouting had black mould to araes, bath was very dirty/stained, basin was cracked, handle to toilet was very loose.

The following morning complained at reception about state of bathroom,they said it would be cleaned,did not understand or did not want to understand no amount of cleaning would remove inground stains/dirt from bath or repair cracked basin.As for the aircon they said it was switched off at night as children got cold(rooms had individual stats.
The Cosmos rep was in reception later in morning for a meeting with us mainly to sell trips to various trips/tours.We explaind problem to him, he assured us he would take care of this and get a room change,we could go out and it would be all sorted by time we returned.
On returning to the hotel reception later in day they knew nothing oabout any room change,after much discussion they offered us another room in the same block, on inspection it was no better than the 1st rooms,bath dirty/stained, mouldy grout etec.
Returned to reception to inform them room not acceptable,they seemed surprised,i was informed that no rooms in that block would probably be any better.
After much discussion again and being left by recepionist to deal with other people on a number of times, we were offered Villas, although much smaller they at least had a clean bath,later found out aircon did not work properly.
The TV in the room was very small and very old,managed to get some news in english but not worth having a TV realy as no channels in english.
The rooms were supposed to be serviced each day, whilke beds were made,little attention made to cleaning bathroom.
The whole time we were there the aircon did not get the room even down to 15C.
The food quality was not great but could usualy find something to eat, prentation and variety being poor,usualy a choice of chicken,turkey ,only hot food was soup, or omellette in morning made to order.
Bar staff were at most very good and polite,friendly,as long as you did not interrupt them on their phones.
I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family not even as a 3star.

We have visited Turkey on other occassions, it is the highested rated hotel we have stayed in but it is by far the worst we have stayed in.

It is veey disapointing that we had especially booked an hotel with air conditiong,only to find this was not working,it realy spoiled the holiday as it was difficult to get to sleep in the heat.

This holiday was not worth the money we paid.

It is worth notoing that if you book an iland boat trip, you are unlikly to get a sunbed as by the time you get to the boat ther are none available.The Cosmos rep assurred us that there would be a sunbed for each passenger.

We returned from the Mares this morning 28th October 2012 and was disappointed with the holiday as a whole.

The Hotel is set in a lovely picturesque bay just outside of Marmaris. The Villas are set into the hillside and were easily accessed by us to the rest of the facilities, but people with walking difficulties would struggle with the steep slopes and numerous flights of stairs to get around the complex. Also a long walk if you want to pop out of the room to bring a drink back to enjoy on the balcony. As for the balcony it had what must have been an amazing view of the sea and the bay, but now it is a view of pine trees and the paths down to the beach. The said pine trees also blocked the sunlight on the beach from 2pm so you could only get sun on the jetties after this time, but if you wanted one of these "prime location" beds you had to be willing to be up at 7am to join the sun bed/towel placing party that is in full swing at this time each day.
On the beach there is a bar, but it only serves beer, hot drinks and soft drinks, so if you want a wine or alcoholic drink, then get your climbing boots back on and head up to one of the other bars.
In the other bars service is ok (this was near the end of the season) but do not expect the rule of I was here first, the service is done in the order of Turkish, Russian, any other, then English. This rule is throughout the hotel not just at the bars and a prime example was my Wife & I were exchanging currency and mid transaction, a Turkish lady walked to reception and spoke over us to the receptionist, the receptionist stopped our transaction, fulfilled whatever the Turkish lady requested before what seemed grudgingly returning to carry on with the scum (us).

We didn't use the pool, but it looked very clean and a good size, the sun bed issue was not as bad as the beach, but was still an issue

Housekeeping visited 6 days, and basically pulled the bedding straight and swopped towels, by day 3 we had to ring to get toilet paper sent to the room, and it seems if you don't ask (which you shouldn't have to) you don't get. This theme must have been similar throughout the complex as people were taking the toilet roll from all of the public toilets, so if you did need to use them, there was never any toilet paper in there. The bed linen was not changed in the time we were there, and the floors were never swept or cleaned (no facilities to do this yourself either)

The air-con did work but to a very minimum level. The room was of a good size, with a sofa, a double bed a TV that belonged on the antiques road show, but that doesn't matter as no English speaking channels (not even News or Music). The safe is a good size and we were shocked to find that it was free. There is a fridge from the same era as the TV that had 2 bottles of water in on our arrival this is ok and cools to just below room temperature. The bathroom had mould around the seals and where the tiles met the ceiling. The bath had a major leak one evening and water was filling our room from below the bath panel. It got so bad as it was not noticed until you had finished your shower and pulled the curtain back. Maintenance were quick to come and rectify this but left us waiting another hour for someone to mop up and bring clean towels (we had used ours to stop the flood spreading into the next room via the adjoining door).

In the restaurant, we experienced a full blown argument with one "lady" throwing freshly fried eggs onto another ladies feet, this was caused by the slow staff chatting instead of getting on with cooking the eggs and omelettes, and the ever growing queues and peoples shortening tempers.
I had to wait to get a drink at the bar one lunchtime as the waiter stood at the door to the rear of the bar and finished his cigarette.
The food quality was acceptable, nothing great, but presentation and variety were very poor. Everything looked the same, and many dishes had no label saying what they were, not good for people who have specific dietary requirements or allergies. nearly every dish was made into some kind of stew, and was very evident that the lunchtime sausages became the evening sausage in sauce. This was repeated for everything like turkey, chicken etc.
There are lots of wasps (i know this can't be helped) around the beach jetties and the restaurants, but what can be stopped is the cats that roam around under the tables in the restaurants (I am a cat lover by the way but hygiene comes first)

The bar staff were at most very good, polite and friendly, I can't say the same for everybody else who worked in the hotel but the one thing you do notice is the mobile phone comes first. Even the ladies frying eggs at breakfast would get their phones out and start sending texts or chatting as your eggs got harder and blacker! Nothing seems to matter and if you complain you just get a dirty look as if to say you don't belong here. I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family, you decide for yourselves.

As a final note, I am not a snob, I have traveled Europe america and Africa and stayed in third world countries and had better service and food there and all with a free of charge smile.

on holiday at the grand yazici mares between 29/9/12-12/10/12 with 7 others. This review is my experience of this hotel and when you read it remember that every one has different standards some people do moan a lot. I have never wrote a bad review about a hotel but this is about to change !!

The grand yazici mares hotel has great surroundings the pools are clean and the slides are good fun. The hotel has its own jetties that you can sunbathe on. They are great for a change away from the pool.

The main hotel is very nice with some good shops in the reception. The main restaurant (buffet style) has to be the worst restaurant that I have ever eat in every morning the only thing that I had was omelettes. My kids only had pancakes. It does not sound that bad but if if food quality is important part of your holiday then please avoid. If you are not that bothered about good quality then you will prob be ok.

For lunch and dinner you also have the option of the main restaurant and 2 other restaurant one that does pizza and pasts and the other one did kebabs. In the kebab restaurant most things were scrubbed from the menu. There was other fish restaurant that you had to pay at and was not included in the all inclusive. We never eat their so cant comment on it.

The villa rooms were surrounded in nice gardens. the family room that we were in were big enough for 4-5. The rooms were ok and that's all I can say. The maid cleaning our room was Terrible don't think she cleaned the floor until our second week. Three days we had to phone to get our room cleaned one time I was told that I phoned to late so that was it nothing done other time phoned and our room got the quickest clean ever. ( they left towels basically ). The 3rd time I phoned was after the maid left towels on our outside table pointed at hur wrist and said she was finished. First phoned reception and got brushed off. So had to go to reception and make my disappointment known. Then the cleaning manager came and done our room about 18.30. At least our room was cleaned but it is a hassle you can do without on holiday.

The entertainment team!!!! They were terrible they just walked about thinking they were cool. They would turn your milk sour.

The Sutton bar was very good , the band was playing music to please about 3-4 country's so they did a good job. The bar staff was the most friendliest of all the staff, Fernando has to be the quickest bar man I have ever seen.

The location was very good the hotel was in the middle between marmaris and Icmeler. Easy to get to each resort by dolmas or walking.

The all inclusive was ok. Beer,spirits and wine available and soft drinks available.
No crisps or ice cream available. The only ice cream we got was the choice of one flavour(lemon mostly) from the main buffet restaurant and don't be late 8.30 pm and ice cream is a away.

I was in a group,we had 3 rooms in total, my friends had a better maid cleaning there room but they felt the same way about the food and the entertainment team.

One last thing before I finish, if at night you like to sit and enjoy a little drink at the end of the day,the balcony in the villas are not private as you have stirs going up the side going to villa above.

Please,please,please don't stay in the villas and if you are still going to book stay in the hotel rooms.

This hotel is NOT a 5 star it's a 3 star only.

Ps if I had booked with a holiday company I would have been changed but as I had not I had to lump it.
