We have been coming to Turkey for 15 years, often in May & again in September and have stayed at the Gurol 3 times, Sep11, May 12 and Sep12 but we won't be back. Standards have slipped big time. Almost like Hassan sees you have come back & doesn't need to try to impress you any more (not that he was overly impressive before). In Sep11 & Sep12 we stayed in one of the 2 bed apartments - they are very roomy with 2 bedrooms, a large kitchen/diner/sitting room and a separate bathroom. We chose it in Sep11 as our friends were there in May11 and we saw their apartment & often visited the pool with them. Hassan's sister did all the cooking and she was a lovely cook. However, she left during the summer of 2011 and wasn't there when we went in Sep11 & Hassan or one of the boys was cooking but not very well. They have two balconies, one at the front & one at the back, both with washing lines (although you need your own pegs). There is ample hanging space for clothes but very few coat hangers and those that are there are the trouser 'clip' type or childrens which are neither use nor ornament. The apartment we stayed in in May12 was one of the new one bed apartments on the 3rd floor which are again spacious, with two balconies and all fittings are brand new. However, utensils in the kitchen were poor whichever apartment we were in but to be honest this is typical of Turkey so we were not surprised. We always take a can opener, bottle opener and a sharp knife as we have learnt from experience. Pots & pans are a pain but my husband can make a full english breakfast with one frying pan and a saucepan so you just have to improvise. However, cleaning here is appalling and always has been although it is worse than ever now. Two sisters used to do the cleaning - they were very young - many guests and locals have commented that Hassan is so tight that he will not pay adult rates & so uses virtual children. We arrived at 2pm 10.9.12 and were told Hassan was in Fetiye but would be back in ten minutes. The young lad (who was about 14) behind the pool bar didn't speak a word of english and just kept saying ten minutes. We eventually spotted Hassan's wife & I asked her to call Hassan & to ask him which was our room so we could pick up the key & settle ourselves in. He came on the phone & said he would be ten minutes & told us to have a coffee. We had a couple of beers (which we now realise we never paid for) and eventually one and a half hours later he turns up and tells us he didn't have our flight details so didn't know what time we were coming. Rubbish. He then told us our rooms were not ready and said we could change for the pool & we should leave our cases in the room & go to the pool until they were finished. Not good enough. When we went back to our rooms, they had finished cleaning (??!!) but the bathroom was filthy, the bathroom mirror looked as thought it had never been cleaned (and looked worse by the time we left two weeks later), there was a cigarette burn in the bath, the bath mat wasn't changed for the whole fortnight, the sheets and towels were only changed once on the 2nd Monday), we had to buy bleach for the toilet as it was brown and stunk, we had to clean the plastic chairs on the balcony and around the dining table as their were foot marks on some (presumably where previous occupants had put their shoes to tie laces etc) and also sticky questionable 'deposits' on others. We could not get a sun bed as a party of 12 arrived later the same day that we arrived (they were also all told their rooms were not ready as he hadn't got their flight details) & promptly put towels on 'their' beds late at night and so everyone else started to do the same - Hassan should make it a policy to remove towels if beds were not being used but he ignored it - as we have stayed here twice before and he knew we liked to use the pool, he should have made more effort to ensure everyone who wanted to use a sun bed got fair shot at one - for the first 7-10 days Hassan kept asking us to walk through 'his' bar Churchills on the way out but in reality Churchills was run by his brother Taner who is the complete opposite to Hassan who is money grabbing, rude and lazy - aside from a bit of gardening on the sunday we never saw Hassan lift a finger - he just struts around holding his baby life a trophy as if his poor suffering wife never made any contribution !! Taner and the boys in Churchills were always lovely - very friendly, welcoming and happy - however vodka & lemonade rarely had vodka in it and so we only had two drinks there - I take exception to being ripped off. Hassan was also sarcastic - every time he saw us leaving he would make a snide comment such as "who are you?", or "please come this way" (indicating we should go through Churchills). Hassan has absolutely no personal skills at all - he needs to listen to his guests and read these reviews if he wants people to keep coming back. Like another review from Sep12, others have said that they have stayed before & won't be back - we will be doing likewise, which is a shame as we had very much liked it at the Gurol, the size of the rooms and location in the village. we are now looking for somewhere else.
