Since we were last here a couple of months ago, extensive cosmetic work has been carried out on the Promenade at the Arenal in Javea, and it does look nice.
The Promenade appears to have been widened, with new tiles laid, and some extra seating and sheltered areas.
This is a particularly nice area to visit out of season, but that is probably the slightly jaundiced view of someone who spends a lot of time in Spain, and often dreads the arrival of 'the Brits abroad in the height of the summer. The bars and restaurants appear to charge more than in the Port, 15/20 mins brisk walk along the seafront, and become much more touristy. There are some great bars for watching footy however, one of which is the Geographic.
If that is what you are looking for, a great beach holiday (the beach is lovely and sandy here), and has a number of play areas for kids, bars, shops and restaurants where you do not need to speak Spanish, the Arenal is the perfect place for a great holiday.
If you want to find more traditional Spain however, choose the Port or the Old Town areas of Javea.
Have a great time whichever you choose ! Javea is a great town !
