We have been visiting his restaurant on a regular basis now for many years, and the quality of the meal and the warmth of the welcome we receive is always excellent. We have never had a bad meal here. Your comfort is so important to these lovely people that last summer, they bought portable fans next to our table when some of our party where struggling with the heat.
The restaurant is located on the road into Denia on the left hand side, but it is necessary to drive along to the roundabout past the restaurant and turn round in order to access it. Turn off by the Lidl sign, go round the little roundabout and drive along in front of the other shops to park up. If all the parking there is taken, you can park at the back of the restaurant on the service road.
We usually chose to have the Yu Yuan special salad to start, which is a mix of salad, chicken and a couple of prawn things, and a vegetable spring roll which is scrummy but does have a little meat in so vegetarians beware.
Both my husband and friend's hubby swear by the curry here, beef and prawn respectively, and I'm rather partial to the fried onions and curry sauce. The sole and crab option also makes a nice change. If any if your party aren't big chinese lovers they can also eat here with things such as fried chicken and chips. There is also a children's menu. And you can get a set menu for a good price, although we prefer the a la carte which is still very reasonable.
You can get a decent bottle of house white wine for around three euros and this is one of the few restaurants we frequent where you can get a large bottle of still water rather than getting ripped off for small ones!
Don't always have dessert as often too full, but the ice cream is lovely (vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, as is the Crema Catalana a frozen dish with a sweet hard topping.
This restaurant also rates highly in my husband's good coffee guide, which is praise indeed ! So black coffee drinkers particularly give it a try!
The restaurant is open at both lunchtimes and evenings (opening at 6.30) and tends to get busier the more the evening goes on. Yu Yuan is frequented by a mix of nationalities, the bulk of whom are Spanish, English and German.
The owner Juan is friendly as is his wife and the other staff. Service is usually efficient, but you are never rushed out when you finish. It's also a good chance to practice your Spanish with them, as their English can be a little limited at times. If you are a party of six or more its worth booking in advance, particularly in the summer months, and there aren't that many tables of that size.
Always worth a visit, we look forward to our next one! And excellent value for money! Added bonus is a new bodega has opened a few shops along from Yu Yuan now too, with a great selection of wines, well worth a visit while you are local.
