“Its not a motel -it's a cabin in the National Forest!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Our family has been to this cabin multiple times - by choice! It is a restored cabin on the National Forest. It is not meant to serve as a hotel/motel in-town experience. You bring your own linens and food (duh). The cabin has always been spotless and the wood floors kept up. It is situated in a riparian setting and the birds and wildfife that are around are amazing. It is incredibly quiet. From the cabin you can find hiking and roads that go into the forest. Its the perfect rustic get-away where you can forget your cell phone but still have the luxury of electricity. I agree with Jerry - dont go. Leave it for the rest of us!

The cabin is indeed primative. The bedding is not 4 Seasons.
The place is owned by the National Forest Service for goodness sakes. There's NO television. Radio is spotty at best. Forget the cell phone, it don't work. I absolutely hate the place so much that I'm going back for the 8th time in October. I can't wait......

  • Liked — The remoteness and pure country feel. A cowboy's dream
  • Disliked — The possiblity that it might become popular and a bunch of yuppies would discover it.

It was so depressing to stay here at Sycamore cabin. Not the idyllic, bucolic setting I expected from the website's description. No decor, the furniture inside was so bad we used our camping chairs indoors and outdoors. The beds were scary dirty and also squeeky. I guess it's a step up from camping since there is a bathroom, tub shower, full kitchen. We had no water unfortunately due to a problem with pressure and the forest service notified us about that. We decided to go anyway. We brought lots of water, but that did not help with the toilet issue. The journal in the cabin documents lots of problems with water at the cabin.
The outdoors: the views are ok, not great, some traffic on the road in front of the cabin. Lots of "no trespassing" signs around the area, so not a lot of hiking as I expected. The chain link fence around the cabin also detracts from the experience. The creek in the back of the cabin is not accessible unless you walk around a long fence. Just an overall disappointment.
