Stayed here for 2 nights after the Grand Canyon and found it to be alright. Room walls are very thin and we could smell the smoke from the next non-smoking room! The main door to room was at least a 1/2 inch higher than the floor - I kept on worrying about bugs coming into the room. The room was nice and the ammenities were on par with other hotels. Ate at the hotel restaurant - The Gathering several times and the breakfast and lunch were good. Easter Brunch was ok. We used the pool and jacuzzi - nice. Shuttle bus - very conveniant. Across the street had some of the best Indian bread I ever had. Location is very close to Montezuma's Castle (5 minutes) and about 15 minutes from Cottonwood. Overall not a bad stay. Liked the casino and bowling there.

Walls between the rooms are VERY thin. The restaurant food is very good, but the service is very slow. The shuttle to and from the casino is very convenient.

“Made a bad situation worse”

I took my father to this Casino / Hotel for his 86th birthday. The following morning he collapsed in the casino. My father was taken to the hospital in Cottonwood, he is still there. I received little to no help from casino or hotel staff. While my father was lying bleeding on the casino floor I made several requests that someone call my brother. I was told I would have to go outside and call myself. Security found it appropriate to have a conversation with facility staff about getting the blood out of the carpet. My father was lying just feet away. They would not assist in arranging transportation back from the hospital so I was not able to go in the ambulance with my father. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told no one was willing to speak with me. They did not even assist by taking me back to my room/ car. I myself had to wait at the shuttle stand. No staff ever enquired as to my father’s well-being when I returned / checked out. Not only would I not recommend this destination I would strongly advise against it.

We stayed at this lodge for two nights. We booked a standard suite and was told when I called that there would be a door between the two rooms. When we got to our room, there was not a door. The rooms were quite large and fairly clean. We enjoyed sitting on the back patio, as we had a nice view of the mountains and pool. It was also fun to watch all the little lizards running over the rocks. The kitchen had a micro and fridge w/ freezer. The bathroom was spacious and had a bidet - ha! You don’t see them often!!
The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. We arrived at 12:00pm well before the 4:00pm check-in. The clerk asked us to come back in a few hours. We checked out the casino and had lunch at Johnny Rockets. We returned at 2:00pm and she promptly got us in our room!!
I was most impressed with the friendliness for the staff at the bar at The Gathering. They were very helpful and we enjoyed our conversation with them. They even let us taste several for their wines for a small cost!! We enjoyed it so much that we went back the second night for wine tasting and appetizers!
The pool was clean and refreshing. We were lucky that no one seemed to use it while we were there, so it was like having it all to ourselves.
Last, the shuttle to the casino was very convenient. It was fast and the driver was most friendly. She spotted a tarantula crossing the parking lot and we stop to see it. She told me how they really get a bad rap because they are not aggressive, just hairy and scary looking!!
If I returned to Camp Verde in the future, I would definitely stay at the Lodge at Cliff Castle again!!
