“Superb experience !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

If you are in flagstaff, you must not miss it. This is a great park, won't call it a zoo. It's just at an hour's drive. The people are nice to talk to, ready to answer all questions you have. The park is very well organized and the transportation provided is also great. It is very informative. The animals are very nicely kept and healthy. They are kept is a most natural environment, even better than San Diego safari. Had never seen such a big Rhino so close ! The Tiger show was educational and fun. Feeding the Tiger was a great experience. The snake show was also cool. You get to touch / hold such a big python... All shows are only once in a day, so keep a watch on the time ! I would recommend the Serengeti Tour to start with. The Giraffe comes close to take the feed. The zebra smiles at you ! You can see other aniimals up close too.
Highly recommended !

“Awesome Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Have been to numerous Wildlife Parks and Zoos. This is one of the most natural habitat, wildlife settings I have ever seen. Well organized with transportation and shows. Start with the Serengeti tour. Takes you throughout the park, then take the tram to the show area. You can walk or ride as much as you want. Trams are free with general admission price. Awesome Wildlife shows.

“Much Better Than Expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We had out-of-town visitors and, pressed for ideas, decided to take them to Out of Africa. What a wonderful discovery! This little zoo, formerly in metro Phoenix, lost its lease and relocated to Camp Verde, about a two-hour drive from central Phoenix. Although a bit ramshackle, what makes this little zoo worth the visit is how much closer you can get to wild animals compared to a regular zoo (where the animals are usually asleep in a cave or grass and one is grateful to see even a flick of a tail). We spent a morning here but did not see everything. The owners and staff of Out of Africa clearly love their animals and use animal psychology to keep the larger animals unaware they are in a zoo; thus, two male giraffes are still feuding over a female, and all day the male lions will quite visibly and theatrically roar their calls of dominance and territoriality to the other lions, who can hear but not see each other and do not realize they are separated by fences. But the real close-ups are on the tours where you are taken in a vehicle to where the animals are living, and then the driver, or even YOU, feed them. The herbivore tour had huge 16' giraffes stick their heads in the vehicle and eat right out of our hands. The predator close-up tour was spectacular: the driver got out of the vehicle holding a slab of meat in tongs, then climbed a chain link fence until the particular lion, tiger, etc., living near that stop would come to the fence and jump up to devour it. Seeing a huge mass of wild muscle, claws and ferocious teeth jump up, not more than 8' in front of your face, is -- unusual. Several women in our party screamed at the first stop as the first predator was thus fed. For myself, when the black leopard looked directly in our eyes with his unflinching stare of wild, malevolent hate as he moved straight toward us, I became pretty glad there was a fence between him and me. It is vivid how dangerous these animals would be in the wild. Kudos to Out of Africa for making this possible. There is not anything like this little zoo in a thousand miles. Go in the morning when the animals have a sharper appetite and will get closest to you. There is also a zip line across the zoo which we did not ride, but may come back to ride another time.

“The best side trip in Sedona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

We visited Out of Africa and were amazed at the care and handling of the animals. We loved riding in the tram and getting close to the animals, and the tiger show was great.
I highly recommend this place. It is definitely worth the price and the drive. We would go again if we are back in Sedona.

“Zipping over Africa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Well, actually it is a wildlife park near Sedona, Arizona, but it's closer and no passport is required. The Preditor Zipline fly over several of the wild animal enclosures, offering a view not found by just walking around--imagine looking down at a curious giraffe named Pilgrim! Our guides--Jason, Jasper, Chelsea--were delightful and very knowledgeable about the park's animals. My husband and I are seniors, but this is a great family venue and open year round. We highly recommend it to all ages.
