“Dirty dirty dirty!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2010

The location of the hotel is convenient-- several miles outside of Frederick with lots of restaurants close by. The outside of the hotel looked good-- when we arrived to the front desk, no one was there. After waiting for several minutes, a maintenance man told us the front desk man was "in the back making cookies!" and then giggled and ran away.

When we finally got to our room, we were disappointed, as the room was not cleaned well and everything in the room was just totally rundown. The worst part was when we pulled back the covers in the bed, there were stains and little hairs all over! Had it not been late and we were totally exhausted, we would have complained, but we just did our best to clean off the bed and tried to get some sleep for a few hours (as we had a marathon to run the next morning). The room was bright and the air was so dry, neither of us slept for more than an hour all night.

Would strongly recommend not staying here on your next trip to Frederick!!!

The staff was very helpful.
It was nice having a separate bedroom from the living room, which included a sleeper sofa.
There were little ants in the bathroom. The pool had not been recently cleaned. There was a dead fly and a bandaid in it.
The continental breakfast offered a very limited selection.

Toilet water plashed everywhere with each flush. The manager said he had no one to fix it. The dishes in the Kitchenette had brown streaks all over them. I could go one but you get the idea.

We enjoyed our stay, it was convenient for travel around the area. We signed up for a suite for a two couple stay and found the sofa bed hard and lumpy. We ended up signing up for a second room, which was not in our budget-. The staff obviously knew that sofa was unacceptable as a bed, as they were discouraging when I registered on our arrival. This information would have been nice to known when making reservations that indicate the use of a sofa bed.

This was our first stay in over a year after 5 or more visits with this hotel in the past. We were not disappointed. The suite was immaculate, the decor calming and restful and there was no distractions from our rest by noise above or around us. Lots of cable channels to choose from. The pool and pool area, as usual, was clean with towels and lounge chairs available. My 4 Grandchildren always love the pool and the jacuzzi. An outdoor area with tables, chairs and a large grill made for good reading and a little of the sun's warmth. The staff were professional and our room well maintained during our three night stay. Since our last visit, new tables and chairs had been added to the breakfast area and they now have a desk with internet access in the lobby and USA Today Newspapers for the guests. Thank you Frederick MainStay Suites! We will be back.

I recently stayed here for a conference and picked this hotel because it had it's own kitchette and the price was reasonable. While the room was very clean, I was told that I would get a non-smoking room and I could smell smoke as soon as I opened the door
to the room. It was especially bad in the bathroom. Perhaps when the hotel staff lists a room as non-smoking they mean that nobody has smoked in it for the last hour.

Room was very small. Expedia screwed up my reservation and someone got stuck sleeping on the sleeper sofa. They said it was comfortable. But they lied. A man was in the lobby drinking beer. We used the hot tub and swimming pool to relax but that was a mistake. The next morning when our suits were dry they stunk. It didn't smell like chlorine more like a dirty diaper (very gross). Also, it was noisey throughout the night. We only stayed there because it was pet friendly but I would not stay again.

  • Liked — pet friendly
  • Disliked — noise, smelly pool, small room
