Owner description: This key Civil War battlefield marked the last push north by Confederates in 1864. Although it's seen as a confederate victory, this advance on Washington, D.C. was brought to a hault by the forces led by Major General Lew Wallace, U.S. Army.

A nice place to step back in time and see how the US was built, and changed during the civil war. Take time out to see Cunningham Falls State Park also, for a picnic, if the weather is nice.

“Nice stop on the way to Gettysburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

This was one of our stops on the way to Gettysburg from DC. The museum was very informative and kept our hubbies busy for quite some time. We stopped by at one of the near by farms and checked out the old buildings, corn fields and even a tree that had a few bricks that had grown into the tree. Great way to see how the Civil War was truly in our own backyard!

“Worthwhile visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Interesting history. A very nice, fairly easy hiking circuit of about 3 miles along the banks of the Monocacy River -- starts from the Worthington House.

“Great Little Battlefield”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Monocacy is not one of the major draws among Civil War battlefields, but it is well worth a trip. It's a pretty small field, easy to cover and explore. The new visitors center is quite nice, with very friendly and helpful employees, and solid historical displays. Great place.

“Fantastic Battlefield”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

This is an excellent battlefield and well run. There are 5 driving stops with hiking trails and 3 of them. I especially enjoyed the trail at the Mill, excellent path and great scenery. I would recommend this to anyone interested in the Civil War or outdoor activities.
