“Nice experience; fun place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

I came here with a very good friend for a relaxed dinner. Our server, Brian, was excellent. He patiently took us through the menu with good suggestions and kept checking on our needs; service could not have been better! Food was good; some very good - we particularly liked the paella, served in a tapas-sized portion. The feta and watermelon starter was unusual and refreshing. We had three different shrimp dishes - as part of a ceviche, with rice in squid ink, and cilantro roasted - all good. The brussel sprouts were tasty but rich. The salmon was slightly overcooked and definitely overseasoned. The wrapped crispy spanish dates were surprisingly unremarkable, mainly tasting of dates. We shared a 1/2 pitcher of red sangria - good. I finished with a turkish coffee - I would have liked it a bit more robust and sludgy but not bad from a prepackaged mix. We ate here quite late but the noise level was relatively low. We enjoyed our visit; the excellent service made all the difference.

“Was not that impressed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

I've heard alot about Isabella's, but was not all that imprssed. It's located in the heart of Fredericks downtown restaurant and bar scene and it's probably better to go for the bar scene at night. The food was not all that impressive, but weekend nights it's jammed packed with dancing and lively night life.

“Unpleasant experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

My family dined at Isabella's for the first time while on a day trip to Frederick. Our server, while friendly, was unfamiliar with the menu and could not pronounce many of the menu items. My wife, who was born and Spain and visits frequently, tried the paella. To be generous, just because you mix rice and seafood in the pan does not add up to paella. No sign of a fish/chicken stock, wrong rice, and overall, there was no flavor. Our kids had the French toast and scrambled eggs. Thinly sliced spongy white bread does not constitute proper French toast. Scrambled eggs were overcooked. I had the Cuban sandwich, which had ham and turkey but no sign of roasted pork. And it was on ciabatta bread. It was not a Cuban sandwich.

“Wonderful Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Stopped for lunch and got the tapas lunch special - 3 tapas for $10.99. I had the breaded, fried asparagus - very tasty and the sauce is great. Also had the mac and cheese which was very good. On the menu they had sizzling shrimp but I asked if they could make that with squid and they did. Very accommodating. I thought maybe the tapas would be smaller because it was a lunch special but they were the regular size. I ended up taking some home. Service was great.

“Bar Food!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

You won't get decent tapas here, just crummy overpriced dress-up bar food in a pretend-tapas setting. The atmosphere is ok (tho overly air-conditioned), but the food was uninspired junk and the staff (who don't know food) are strangely arrogant- when you order, you are congratulated by your server for making a "good choice" - as if you need their approval.
