We stopped in at Ayse Meze in the early afternoon on New Year's Day. Boy, were we glad we did! Everything we ordered was excellent--and the servers were happy to explain food items and check with the chef about various things on the menu (food allergy). We started with the "cigar trio," pastry rolls stuffed with various mixtures of feta cheese, lamb, and chicken with wonderful dipping sauces. And, on the server's recommendation we tried the brukel lahanas (brussels sprouts--truly amazing dish. Try them, you won't be sorry. Finished up with the Maryland seafood pide (Turkish pizza) with crabmeat and Old Bay aioli. Oh, and the walnut-stuffed caramels with sea salt. Yum! The venue is beautiful--a nice combination of old and new, with soaring windows and up-to-date light fixtures. The bar area looks nice, too, and we can't wait for warmer weather so we can try the outdoor seating area. Only criticism is that the flat breads were lackluster, compared with what we've had in Turkey. The olive oil that came with the bread basket was wonderful, though. Suggestions to management: think about adding hookah pipes for the outdoor area, upgrading the bread (take advantage of your wonderful wood-fired oven), selling your olive oil by the bottle. We'll be back! Also, we ordered by courses, which were served at a leisurely pace. It was pleasant, but maybe this is not the place for a quick lunch break during work hours. But, maybe they have weekday lunch specials…. can't say. The space would be a perfect place for a reception or party, I think.
