“GREAT Hotel...I LOVE it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2011

Nice atmosphere, clean rooms and great service. The rooms look like they are brand new and everything has been updated quite nicely. Free internet and a wonderful breakfast. I love this HIE and recommend it to anyone travelling through Barstow.

I was so surprised when I arrived at the hotel and opened the car door. There was a continuous screeching noise. When I went to the front desk, I was told that there was a railroad crossover station behind the hotel. I was given ear plugs and told that the windows had a triple seal.I can't sleep with earplugs, so I kept the airconditioning fan on high and the bathroom fan on also. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was fine.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2010

I stopped here a night on the way from LAX to Las Vegas, attracted by the "Route 66" in the name. It was an extremely pleasant interlude. Sure, I could hear the noises on the rail siding during the night but they are significantly muted by the triple-glazed windows that the hotel tells you it has installed, though of course I recognize that others might have a problem. The room was cozy and comfortable, with wireless Internet, and the complimentary breakfast was outstanding, far better than I've had in other hotels of similar format and price. It was something of a thrill to actually stop a night on the original Route 66. For those who aren't ultra-sensitive to modest noise that isn't caused by inconsiderate PEOPLE, I can wholeheartedly recommend this establishment.

This is the worst Holiday inn hotel, I ever slept-or tried to-in.
Noisy-train shift in the back-working trough out the night. Even with ear plugs impossible to sleep.
Room extremely small and could hardly hold all the furniture. Bathroom tiny.
The room though a non-smoking room was smelling awfull of old cigarette smoke. Probably former a smoker room.
The receptionist in the evening was very nice-in the morning a lady, who could not care about our complain at all.

We stayed here overnight on a long road trip. There isn't much to recommend about Barstow except it is a place to stop when crossing the Mojave desert. This hotel was apparently originally part of another lower end chain and now a HIE, The rooms have been somewhat updated but in order to enlarge the shower, they extended it into the room, making it very hard to move around. The frame around the shower door appeared to be original and was quite rusty. The room was clean but very small and cramped. The railroad yard is right behind the hotel and is pretty noisy. Prices in Barstow are very high because you have no place else to stay unless you drive very far. We've stayed in many nicer HIE hotels for much less money

This is an extremely nice hotel, very nicely made up, newly renovated, great breakfast area. However, without an elevator, it's impossible for the physically challenged to maneuver. The outside doors couldn't be unlocked with the key card (the lady at reception said they don't work in freezing weather - it was 70 degrees!), the handicap accessible rooms are on the first and second levels, but the reception and lobby are on the second level. There is a steep ramp from the parking area to the lobby entrance. The laundry is on the third floor. You must be extremely fit to stay here. Outside, the constant screech of the train yard directly behind the hotel was annoying. My room was the last one nearest the train yard. Although I could faintly hear the train screeches, it didn't bother my sleep. The bathroom has a lighted shower, no tub. Not a bad hotel, but certainly not for those with disabilities. I recommend it for the healthiest folks. It wasn't originally built as a Holiday Inn Express which explains the lack of elevators. The outdoor pool appeared in good condition. Adequate of parking space. The internet worked very well in my room. Right on Route 66.
