“All we were looking for in Basrtow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2011

We planned a trip to Barstow to go geocaching on Route 66 and our requirements were a nice clean hotel, conveniently located and with free wi-fi.
This place fit the bill perfectly. Upon arriving, we asked the manager for a good place to eat and his suggestion was also exactly what we were looking for.
The original plan was to stay for one night and see if we wanted to go elsewhere for the rest of the trip but the friendly service, the affordable rooms (less than $50 per night) and nice clean rooms (we stayed in 114 and 115) convinced us to stay 2 extra nights.
My room (114) had a shower only which was quite all right with me and my friend's room had both a shower and bathtub. So if you want a bathtub, make sure you ask for a room with one.
There were the occasional trains going by at night but we were so tired at night after hiking all day that it didn't bother me at all. I also think that since Barstow is located at the junction of several busy railways, train traffic noise is probably unavoidable.
The breakfast was decent, with 2 choices of cereals, fresh fruits and some pastries every morning. We did skip it one day to get our fill of eggs and bacon but other than that it was quite all right. There's also a mini fridge and microwave oven in the room as well as a safe.
I would definitely stay again at this hotel. There was a promotion going on at the time we stayed there. If you booked 2 nights you get 20% off and if you booked 3 nights you ger 25% off. Very good value.

Room Tip: Ask manager if room has shower or bath.

The motel is rather like a backyard with some poorly arranged blocks. The rooms are noisy and for American standards rather small. The staff is not particularly hospitable. The included breakfest consists only of weak coffee and some biscuits. Right next door, by mutch luck, is the famous railway station of Barstow with a McDonalds.

Reasonable size room which was clean and tidy but the air conditioning system was very noisy. Complimentary breakfast was OK but not enough space to sit down to eat. Both tables being used by other guests which made accessing the food quite difficult as space was minimal.
Pleasant front desk staff, friendly and helpful.
Had the cheapest cold drinks machine 75cents for diet coke!
Handy stopping place on way to Vegas from Yosemite

This was a one night stay only. The room had a grubby appearance, with a strong smell of disinfectant, which when mixed with a dirty bathroom smell was not at all pleasant. The room needed a good scrub.Reception staff were quite helpful shame they didn't put more effort into their cleaning. I think the whole place could do with a refit.

Arfrived after a long drive from LA en route to Las Vegas. Having previously stayed in a very nice Travelodge in San Diego we picked this one expecting something similar. Big mistake. The owner looked bored out of his mind and barely acknowledged our existence. The room although clean was pretty run down and in need of a lot of TLC. The "hotel" seems to back onto a scrapyard / motor home park so you get all sorts of people and vehicles walking through the car park which seems to be the main route into both. Consequently we didn't feel very safe here. I braved a swim in the pool as it was 115F outside, but finished prematurely when some guy, clearly on drugs wandered over. I was then amazed when I got back to my room to see him go back into one of the hotel's rooms. He looked more like the local drunk than a hotel guest! A series of dodgy looking characters then turned up throughout the evening and night.

his place is cheap and you soon see why...

  • Liked — Fairly clean rooms, cheap
  • Disliked — Too cheap!

This place is terrible and extremely noisy. Every few hours I was awoken by the trains going by (train tracks are across the street) which resulted in the windows and door shaking. Back units of the property are adjacent to a family mobile home park which resulted in loud noises and barking dogs. A gardener at 6:00 AM was blowing leaves from the driveway which a leaf blower - nice time to wake up in case you weren't already awake due to extremely noisy area. The inside of the room leaved a lot to be desired. The tub didn't drain during showers so you had to stand in a tub or dirty water. The ceiling fan in the bathroom was hanging down and was filthy. Towels were VERY flimsy and there weren't any towel racks - patched walls where towel racks apparently used to be located. Wall lamps were dirty, end tables dusty. No rack to hang clothes - apparently the closet was taken out in which you could see on the walls were the outline used to be - wasn't even painted over. Large spots on walls that were patched and not soothed over or painted. Cobwebs in corners and on walls. Would definitely NOT recommend every staying in this hotel. They should have paid me to stay here instead of the other way around.
