“best motel for bikers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2010

We are bikers and we stayed at the Route 66 Motel one night.
We recomend.
This is a small and simple motel, but is the best place for the people want to live the history of the mother road.
The Route 66 Motel was open there is more time in the city.
Mary and Victor are nice people and receive the guests very well. They talk about the antiques of the motel; they indicate the tradicional places for the night; they keep open the historic motel.
Thanks for Mary and Victor.
P.S.: You will like to drink a cold beer on the "Hooz on 1st?" bar, near of the motel.

Barstow can look a little rough around the edges, especially coming in at night. Motel 66 is indeed one of the older establishments along the main drag, and many wwould shy away automatically, heading to one of the bigger "name brands" further down the road like Holiday Inn Express. The grounds are clean and decorated in a fun nostalgic style, with an old car and lots of Route 66 memorabilia. We entered the tiny check-in office, also covered floor to ceiling in Route 66 fun, to be greeted by the owner and his two adorable toy poodles. He was friendly and sincere, and we felt safe and well-cared for immediately. he even gave us some snacks and a travel-sized toothpaste! It was nice to have an old-fashioned key on a classic plastic fob instead of the swipe cards so common these days.

The room was old --sure -- but clean, secure and comfortable. The round bed was a hoot, but surprisingly firm. We had a great sleep, there was no noise bleed from the other rooms, and the owner gave us good restaurant recommendations as well. For $40 it was a very good experience, and we would definitely stay there again.

I really wanted to love this quirky little place but the filthy bathrooms were a deal breaker. I had read the reviews so I knew it was old and funky and frankly that was a draw for me. (I drive a classic car and consider a night spent at the WigWam Motel a highlight of one roadtrip.) Before paying I asked to see the room first and it was just as expected with the round beds and old decor and I paid my money, chatted with the owner and moved in my stuff. Somehow I neglected to look into the bathroom, however. and was pretty horrified at the condition. First I noticed all the little hairs around the sink and filthy mirror. This gave me pause but a wipe down with a washcloth took care of it. Then I looked at the toilet and I knew there was a bigger problem at hand. So I went to the kindly owner and expressed my concern and he gave me keys to look at two other rooms. Sadly both had the same filthy toilets. Not just old stained fixtures, which would be fine, but these toilets clearly had not seen a sponge or toilet brush in weeks. The owner gave me my money back without hesitation, but never offered an apology or explanation. Maybe I just hit this motel at the wrong time (certainly other reviewers didn't seem concerned by these same issues) but if you stop here be sure to check the room and bathroom before deciding to stay.

Passing up this motel would be a wasted night in Barstow. The thing that makes this hotel such a gem is the authenticity of its character--it's got mileage and history, subtly standing as a monument of the glory days of America. Not only that, but the service is excellent, the rooms are unique and charming--even though round beds don't sound all that incredible, they are fun, comfortable, and a genuine throw-back to their day. You know what you're getting when you stay at a Super 8 or Motel 6, and the amenities may even be better, but you will not have the personal touch nor history that this motel has to offer. It feels good to stay at the Route 66 Motel. Whether with family or friends, a young couple, you won't want to miss this place.

This one will take you back to the glory days of Route 66 with vintage cars and displays around the lot. An older property but kept up. WiFi was spotty, but rooms are adequate for a night's rest. Friendly owner/operator at the desk.
For food, stop at Barstow Station just up the road, which is a McDonalds Restaurant and mini-mall containing other food choices and souvenir shops, all built into one unit using old railroad cars.

This is a quirky place with cool Route 66 memorabilia outside. It has round beds which we liked, good air conditioning, a nice bathroom and a fruendly guy at the desk. We enjoyed staying here.
