Summary of our first stay ever at any Country Inn & Suites By Carlson: disappointing stay, very limited parking, would not come again to this particular property.
We booked this Country Inn & Suites By Carlson for one night via internet directly with the Country Inn & Suites website, room type: one king bed non-smoking, request for a room in quiet location, away from freeway.
We arrived late in the evening. Check-in was quick, things were prepared, we asked on which side of the hotel our room would be and if our assigned room is located on the side facing Chili´s and away from the interstate, the answer was “yes, it is”.
“NO, IT WAS NOT”
The room was generally ok, but it was facing exactly the direction we did not want. After a short while the person from the front desk called and wanted to know whether everything was to our satisfaction. When we told her she was wrong concerning the location of our room at check in, she told us, she was very overworked.
At check out the following day we told this story again to the person at front desk. He told us what we would expect as this property is so close to the freeway, so he thinks they have only noisy rooms anyway.
We were simply unhappy that we were told wrong. We also got the impression that customer “satisfaction” does not mean the same compared to some other hotel chains.
During the night the room turned out to be very noisy, as neither windows nor walls are of any soundproof quality so you really get the feeling to sleep on the interstate. Our room was also facing the VALERO gas station next to the hotel (may be we were lucky that it was closed at the time of our stay).
We stayed in room 409 - clean room, good free wifi internet. One bedroom with window, one room with sitting area and fridge/microwave. Both of these rooms have flat screen tv. In the bathroom we missed a cosmetic/shaving mirror, but we liked the small cosmetic items by Pantene/Vaseline.
The room layout is unfortunate as the more quiet room is the sitting room.
Breakfast room was too small, overcrowded when we wanted to have breakfast, very predictable breakfast choices (we had expected more).
This hotel looks new, but the overall Country Inn & Suites décor and design give it an old fashioned (outdated) look, indoor pool, very limited parking for this type of hotel as you can only park on one side of the property.
Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Barstow, is easy to get to, next to I-15 freeway (exit 178), next to VALERO gas station (closed at the time of our stay).
