“Superb Aiguaclara! my second home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2008

AIGUACLARA is a wonderful small hotel in the heart of Begur.

Location: staying in Begur is an excellent choice, the village is beautiful with lots of great restaurants, and you're perfectly located at 5 minutes from various superb beaches.

Accomodation: the rooms are spacious and trully beautiful, all decorated with tast like the whole mansion. We stayed 3days in the SA RIERA standard room which has excellent views over the village and the above castle. Everything was perfect: you really feel like home, like you're staying at your friends' house, the owners are so warm and friendly...

Fooding: in the hotel, the joined restaurant "AGORA" is amazing. The traditional breakfast is served there, very good with some local products, the best way to start the day. At night, the restaurant is the BEST restaurant in Begur: excellent modern food, amazing gastronomic meals, everything is so delicious !!! For a tasty snack, try the "Aiguaclara Tapas" on the main place of the village, great atmosphere with great tapas and drinks.

Finally, the Aiguaclara is a superb mansion, perfectly located in Begur, one of the best spot in the Costa Brava. The best asset of the hotel, beside the elegant style and the tasty food, is the staff warm and friendly.

Having travelled the world extensively, I can honestly say this friendly hotel is amongst my favourites. From the moment you meet Joan and Clara to your departure you are assured of a wonderful stay. The hotel has a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere created by the owners who are incredibly helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband and I stayed for one week at the Hotel Aiguaclara in Begur in June 2008. We booked the Junior Suite Aiguaclara, which has a large, east facing balcony with two deckchairs, a table and chairs.

We arrived at the hotel late morning to be warmly greeted by Joan. He proudly showed us around the hotel and we were very impressed with the courtyard, the basement lounge (with a selection of CDs), the two honesty bars, the reading room and the restaurant.

Our room was very well laid out and beautifully decorated. The room consisted of a hallway, the bedroom, a large bathroom and a balcony. The hallway contained a sofa and a bureau for storage purposes. The main bedroom had one big wardrobe, two comfy seats, a TV and a CD player. Both rooms had doorways onto the large terrace. The bathroom was large with a huge sink, a bidet, a loo and an excellent shower over the bath. The king sized bed was very comfortable.

We later met Clara, Joan’s wife who again greeted us very warmly with kisses on both cheeks. She then handed us a pile of English magazines to read at our leisure. This was very thoughtful.

Every morning at breakfast Joan came around the tables asking if everyone was ok, what you had done the previous day and what you were doing that day. The couple were always on hand to provide advice and maps on the area, recommend beaches and villages to explore.

The hotel is less than 100 yards from the town square. Begur is a relatively small town but still has a good selection of bars and restaurants. The town is ideally located for visiting the large number of beaches in the area. We particularly liked Sa Riera, which is a 5 minute drive from the hotel.

Overall, we had an excellent stay at the Hotel Aiguaclara in Begur. We would not hesitate to recommend it and hope to return there ourselves one day soon.

From first arriving we instantly fell in love with the hotel. Joan and Clara are excellent hosts and could not have been more helpful regarding the facilites at the hotel, in Begur and other destinations we were travelling to. The standards of decoration, service etc far excelled our expectations, our evening meal in the restaurant was the best we had during our stay in the Gerona region. We cannot wait to pay a return visit !

We had a wonderful stay, felt really welcome, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It was great to make ourselves tea and coffee whenever we liked. The bedroom was light, airy with high ceilings and beautifully decorated in a simple way. Breakfasts were delicious, and the evening menu was very original- can recommend the rabbit and baby octopus dish! We really appreciated the maps and advice about where to visit, and where to find a good diving and kayaking centre. It was nice to be in the centre of Begur, yet also find peace and quiet in the hotel. From our room we could see the castle floodlit at night- it was very romantic! We would love to come back in the future.

This is a romantic hotel in a quiet town, Begur. They decorated it with heart and much care of the clients. Best breakfast i had during my trip in Catalonia. I would like to thank Aiguaclara for the best wishes on my honeymoon. All the best. I would highly recommend this hotel to you if you decide to travel to Costa Brava.
