“Costa Brava - scenic, secluded luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2008

Others have criticised the service at this beautifully set coastal Parador, but this only seems to apply to the Reception Staff, who haven't quite mastered the art of smiling or of giving you the right keys to the gym until your third trek back up from the basement.

But everything else is great;
- the setting on the cliffs with nothing between you and Majorca except the sea and sunrise (ask for a South view, but even the north aspect is beautiful),
- the rooms which are up to the usual high standard of Paradores; the state-run hotel chain of converted castles and new building in beautiful locations
-and especially the food and restaurant service; friendly, very competent and flexible; e.g. no problem if you ask for half portions of cheese or dishes to share. Interesting local dishes as well – they must have a new chef if you compare our good experience with others’.

Special budget deals for 2 nite stays, pensioner and youth discounts make it great value too, with rooms under 100 Euros, meals from 20-40 and quality wine from 12 a bottle. See the Paradores ES website

Coastal walks to crags, coves and beaches, an easy 90 minutes drive to Girona Airport with lots of cheap flights to everywhere else in Europe make it great for a weekend, a longer stay, or as a stopover on your own 'Grand tour'.

We visited this Parador for 4 nights in December including the New Year with much trepidation after the reviews on Tripadvisor.

What a pleasant surprise; the hotel was located in a beautiful area of
Spain sitting on a peninsular looking out over the Mediterranean. The hotel is stylish and immaculate, we were greeted by friendly helpful staff who took our luggage to a charming room with a view you only normally see on a cruise ship. As requested our single beds had been pushed together and made up as one.

As we were booked in for four nights and the last three included dinner we decided to try a local restaurant, when we enquired at reception the staff were only too pleased to suggest one and offered to make a reservation for us, it was delightful.

We then awoke on the morning of the 29th December to our three day stay package, breakfast was well organised and there was an excellent variety of fruit, cereal, bread, juice, fish, eggs and meat. Coffee or
tea was brought to the table individually by happy efficient staff.

After a lovely day touring this picturesque area we returned to the hotel for dinner, we were given a menu in Spanish which was set but the food was of a very high standard and much to our amazement the package included all of our wine with dinner which was chosen for each
course and glasses were refilled before they were empty. There was a singer in the bar following dinner which was a nice touch.

On the 30th December we received a phone call in the room to tell us that for the remaining two nights we would be placed on a dinner table
of six, eight or ten. We enquired later at reception and were told that we would be matched with English speaking residents.

We were with a couple from Austria who spoke English very well and a gentleman from Birmingham and France – both British. It was a great idea and a lot of fun and beverages were had by all, this evening there was a magician for entertainment if you so desired.

New Years Eve gala dinner kicked off with a champagne reception with beautiful canapés at 8.30 we then went into dinner on the same table as the previous night and were served a superb five course meal with accompanying wines and cava. We were then asked to retire to the bar area where another table was reserved for us with a large party bag each and a bowl of twelve grapes per person to observe the Spanish tradition of eating a grape on every chime of the clock.

Lots of fun was had with the party bags, poppers and dancing to the band, and as a very special bonus there was an open bar for you to drink what ever you liked.

All in all this has to be one of the friendliest, organised, quality experiences that we have ever had on the continent, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who likes beautiful places,
a high standard of hotel with friendly staff and superb food.
