For those with a sense of history, or simply a love of American literature, this home was a treat. Ralph Waldo Emerson lived in this home, inherited from his grandfather, and it became a center of literary and intellectual Transcendentalist pursuits. Thoreau and Hawthorne spent time there as well. The Old Manse offers guided tours for $8, well worth the price. One word of caution -- if you take the train, bring a map so you'll know where to walk. Once you're off the train, there is absolutely no visitor's center or map or anything to guide you!
