“2 star hotel in a excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

The placement of the hotel is great. Quiet and 3 minutes to the beach, straight ahead. The hotel staff really nice. A family atmosphere. A excellent room service. No luxury but basic need covered beyong average.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back from the front door aren't as iluminated as the rest.

This hotel is quite basic but very clean , the staff may seem surly but they do not speak English, hey they live in Spain it's not unusual not speak Spanish only.
We got by without having any Spanish language and the staff will smile if smiled at

Our room was fine with a very small balcony but it was great to people watch as the hotel is on a main road from the town square to the beach.
The beach is 5mins walk from the hotel and has various bars and eating places, on the street opposite the hotel there is a bar Alba and we frequented this quite often and were given several plates of Tapas while having a drink, I would go as far as to say we could have missed dinner and survived on the Tapas alone.
Again the owner did not speak English but he went out his way to make us welcome

This is not a tourist area but mainly Spanish holiday resort but it was great to see an area as the Spanish see it without the full English breakfasts and kiss me quick hats

Not Benidorm but a very nice resort, the hotel caters for a lot of students and can be noisy till they go to bed and there appears to be a few Spanish senior citizen guests coming and going

we would return to Almunecar

Spent one night here. Twin room bed and breakfast 50 euros - has to be good value.
Very clean hotel and didnt find the staff surly at all. They only spoke Spanish, which being in Spain kind of didnt surprise me actually. I speak the language and found them very helpful when needed.
Only issues - the safe in the bedroom 109 didnt work - but wasnt needed by us anyway. There was, and it seems to be a regular thing, lots of Spanish retired people on a group trip. This led to breakfast being a little disorganised as the staff really couldnt cope with the sudden influx very well. It was hardly something one couldnt put up with though.
This presence of retirees gives the hotel an older feel - but that also wasnt a problem to us whatsoever.
Its well situated for the tropical garden (next door) and sea front (5 mins) and old town (5 mins)
Great value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT on the front of the hotel.

Had the pleasure to stay here and found it perfect. The hotel is modern and clean., the staff was friendly and helpful, the room was large by European standards, the breakfast was varied and tasty, and the best was the tremendous view from the roof top terrace. Straight ahead is the Alhambra, to the right are the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was enchanting to sit there in the evening enjoying tapas and sangria, watching the lights come on in the city. The pool was refreshing after a warm day of sightseeing. The location was great, walking distance from the Cathedral and Plaza Nueva. The only thing lacking was tissues in the bathroom but I found that was the case in all the hotels in Spain. A very minor issue.

There is no doubt this is a nice hotel but I didn't think it was worth the cost. First, I thought the staff was very unfriendly, pretentious and almost rude. I got the impression that I was imposing on them and felt much less like a guest.

Although the hotel is nice and clearly modern, I had major problems with the hot water. I let the water run for almost 20 minutes and there was no sign of any hot water. I finally called the front desk, they sent a maintenance guy and he told me I had to let the water run some more. He stood there while we let the water run for another 15 minutes until there was finally a sign of hot water. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry. I had to, however, run the water for a very long time EACH time I needed to use the shower.

I'm not sure I would stay here again for the cost.
