“A wonderful experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were the only guests at the time of our stay and were thoroughly spoilt by the delightful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Whilst a lick of paint was needed on the patio furniture and on some of the walls, everything was spotlessly clean. We will definitely return.

I have stayed here four times, because every time someone would visit me during my sabatical in Spain, I made a point of bringing them here. First off, you get to experience living in an authentic cave-house which is quite the experience. Secondly, there is the baths which everyone will love. Thirdly, the meals and the service is friendly and comfortable, and good. Now that there is a swimming pool, it is even better! If you can get to this great little hotel, do it, you will never forget it. Also, there is an awesome man-made lake nearby (water reserve) to visit. We were once given the honeymoon suite, it has a ladder up into a skylight.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite for a couple. Cave house for families.

At the outset I have to declare that I am not a fan of sleeping underground without outside window access and natural air flow.
So why go and stay in a hole. Well invited by friends.
If anyone is attracted by the idea of cave living you should try this out. The rooms (caves) are picture perfect, but you are underground and anyone who has a cellar in an old house knows they are damp. Arrive in your room from 36ºC outside to a very welcome 15ºc is initially great ., but then you find that your bedding is damp. In the morning your clothes are damp, and yes it is a bit stuffy and claustrophobic. Another gripe is that the water system does not work properly with the water being pumped in spurts alternating between scolding hot to cold. Not good enough for the rates charged.

The staff here are very friendly and welcoming and we had a great meal on the terrace , although the tables and chairs are in a state of collapse. The patio furniture with our rooms was rotten and totally unusable. It looks and feels like they are having a hard time in the current economic climate but I suppose most places are.
Not my cup of tea. Tried it once and not again, but very thankful I wasn't paying for the stay.

If you want to be a hermit, come here. Otherwise, go somewhere else. When we arrived, we were informed that the restaurant was closed and that the Hamam massages were not available. In addition, they were painting the place. We had white color on our clothes when we came in contact with the walls in our room even though it looked like they hadn't touched it in years. But the breakfast buffet was a pleasant surprise! fresh pressed orange juice and a wide selection of things to eat.

This was my third time at El Jatib, and I would suggest it to anyone who wants an unusual yet comfortable hotel stay. You can take a room in the newer part of the hotel, one of which has a ladder up to a star-gazer (el paraiso), or you can stay in a real cave house, which we did this visit. The girls (aged 10 and 12) loved the little cave house, the restaurant's playroom with tunnels and a slide, and the new outdoor pool. I love the Hannan bath, a relaxing experience, which has an optional massage available as well. The staff is friendly, efficient and laid-back. Owner Eloi has put together a fabulous concept.

We spent only one night in Al Jatib due to bad weather. We had a weekend all-inclusive package for 98 Euros, full board, parking, hammam, massage and friendly staff and atmosphere all included.
We really enjoyed to stay there. The hammam was very pleasant as the manager only allows a certain number of guests per slot. The food was good and defenitely try out their differents teas, they are marvelous.
If you want to cater for yourself you can do it easily as the caves are equipped with a full kitchen, including oven, fridge, microwace, washer and dryer.
Go there for a pleasant family holiday, your children will love it.
