“A gem, fantastic 10 euro menu del dia.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

We just happened on this lovely spot in Capileira. What a find! The day's menu had a choice of entrees and main courses, plus a dessert. Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked and presented, and hot. The service was excellent, the glasses of Rioja very good. We sat on the terrasse - very pleasant. I'd go back tomorrow if it wasn't so fat away. I can't imagine how they can serve such delicious quality food for that price.

“Mixed experiences.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

This restaurant has a good reputation in the area and is often busy. The menu is interesting and makes a welcome contrast with other restaurants in the region. I have eaten here various times and have had some very good food, but this is not always the case. One particular wet rainy lunch time in October we were very disappointed. There were only four people in the restaurant so you would have thought the service would be good. Unfortunately, everything seemed very slow and when we wanted the coffee and then the bill we had to interrupt the staff who were much more interested in chatting at the bar. The food did not taste as though it had been freshly cooked; the stuffed mushroom starter, for example, despite a description that it contained various ingredients including mango and goat's cheese actually tasted very bland. My loin of pork (solomillo) was dry and a bit tough which is not what you would normally expect from this cut of meat. On the plus side, the house wine was very good.

The owner of the restaurant is obviously a good and creative cook, it is just a shame that there is a lack of consistency in the experience you can have here, sometimes great, sometimes frustratingly disappointing. For this reason it is hard to recommend the Corral de Castaño with confidence, although if you go there you might have a thoroughly good experience.

“Difficult to find better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

The menu outside looked interesting but we were apprehensive to enter because restaurant was empty. However, the food was excellent and the little extras all the way through the meal made it incredible value for money. By 9.30pm the restaurant was actually full except for one seat and this was on a wednesday evening in a sleepy village high in the Alpujarras. If you are there don't miss this opportunity.
