“Stayed here twice and love it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2014

we are now in the second day of our second stay here and cannot understand the complaints of some previous reviewers. We had an excellent experience the first time - particularly with the delicious food - and are enjoying our second stay immensely.Yes the rooms are not the most up to date and stylish but you are not paying the high prices those rooms usually command.Having said that they are spacious, comfortable and clean. And they have splendid views. We have always found the staff pleasant and courteous. But the one thing that makes this hotel so special for us is the food.We live in Spain and rarely,if ever, have we found such outstanding quality for the price charged. The cooking is of a uniformly high standard and amazing value at 15 Euros. for a truly excellent 3 course meal. The house white wine at. 7 Euros a bottle is also very good. You should really come here if you enjoy good food.W e shall certainly be back !

Room Tip: Front room high floor for the views

We stayed here for one night and, while it was fine, I think that the pictures make the place look better than it really is. Yes, the room is definitely outdated and the staff leaves a little bit to be desired. In my opinion the hotel/service was not nearly as bad as a couple of the recent reviews paint it to be, but it was nowhere as charming as it could be either. If we go back to Lanjaron I would look for another hotel, however, if there is nothing else available I'd be fine staying here now that my expectations have been lowered.

Hotel is pleasant and clean with nice views in this, although a bit gritty, charming old spa town. The decor is dated. By US standards, as we often find in Europe, the amenities (shampoo, body lotion, kleenex) are lacking.

Getting ice for our room proved to be a real challenge. We asked at reception and they directed us to the bar. The bartender then told us he could not provide us with ice -- really? You have a bar with ice, we are staying in your hotel, this is not a difficult request. After some pressure we were given a small plastic bag with a few pieces of ice. This was not good customer service and is what led to the rating.

There were several issues that led me to give a poor review. Had requested top floor ahead of time for the view. Got stuck far back on lower floor with no view. Grouchy staff very unhelpful. All the staff seemed to be having a bad day. On arrival I found the safety box locked. I requester that it be opened but it never was. Don't try to use the laundry- 2 hours to wash a load and after 1 hour and 40 minutes in the dryer cloths still damp. Many nice hotels in town, I suggest you pick another.

The way we were received on our arrival by the owner at reception was cold in the extreme - a Stasi style demand for passports and we had the feeling to have stepped back forty years in time when the head of reception passed the rule over anyone who wanted to stay in a hotel.
The hotel looks, at first sight, lovely, but everything is cheap - sheets, towels, shower, beds, not to mention that most of the hotel staff, with the exception of one young man who was part of the family, were surly/downright rude or incompetent - they gave the impression of being very poorly paid.
The so-called room with a mountain view looked out over a main road to the front and over the bins/car park on side.
The only hotel in the world where the 'do not disturb' door hanger has 'do not clean my room' on the other side of 'do not disturb' so if you're not careful and just turn the card over without looking when leaving your room, you'll come back to find it unserviced!
The pool is not heated; in short everything cries out how much the owner wants to save money.
All of the signs around the hotel (and there are a lot) are not informative but authoritative.
The breakfast was the most disastrous of our stay in Andalusia for a month: and having seen the 'buffet' assembled in a cramped pantry on stainless steel dishes we decided to give it a miss and have breakfast outside the hotel.
When we left after only staying one night instead of five, the owner was more concerned about telling us that we would have to pay for the following night than she was about finding out why we had decided to cut short our stay.
Even if you have a problem you're better off sleeping in your car!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

Hotel location - pretty much in the centre, just off the high street - but don't drive this way. Entering Lanjaron, continue on the A438 (not into town), hotel is on the left in hillside, then turn left immediately after into upper car park. Ring Reception bell on gate. Do not go on and take a left, otherwise you will end up in some extremely hilly narrow streets!

Hotel: Entering as above you come in on the ground floor where the pool and restaurants are. Place is like a maze with reception on Floor 1 (I think). We'd have loved to seen a map of the place.

Public Rooms: Some nice public rooms. Restaurant outside very charming - although we didn't rate the food nor service (except the barman who seemed to do a stint everywhere!) There were other rooms where you could sit, out of season.

Pool - very nice and surrounded by artificial grass: good idea I thought, as cool on the feet and very clean! Nice lot of beds and shades.

Room: Ours was a triple on the ground floor with a small terrace (behind a bush) and a very loud fountain. Rather cramped, dark and dingy so we were glad to only be staying the one night.

We liked Lanjaron as it seemed very unpretentious. There was a Medieval Fiesta going on at the time we were there (14th August). Definitely worth a stroll.

Room Tip: Perhaps request a 'modern' room with a view and a balcony as per some of the bright, airy pi...

Anyone passing through Lanjaron should treat themselves to lunch or dinner in the hotels restaurant - wonderful fresh local produce at affordable prices! Great views of surrounding mountains and castle ruins. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
