“Beautiful Hotel in downtown Atlanta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

Stayed for one night we were in town for a concert at the Staples Center. We were able to walk to the concert and enjoy the sights. Hotel has restaurants, bars, Starbucks and a store, just expect to pay top prices! Room was nice with a over view of the Atlanta sky line, Bed was very comfortable. My daughter loved the indoor/outdoor pool. Overall we would definitely stay again. Close to lots of stuff to do.

I'll say in advance that this is a good hotel with clean rooms, okay beds (the pillows are terrible but that seems to be the new Marriott standard), and good service. It is an architectural wonder if you're into that kind of thing. All that said, here goes the rest of it...

I've stayed at this hotel for business numerous times in the past decade and have seen a slow, steady decline into mediocrity. In my last three stays at the Marquis (which are my last until they address some issues) the elevators serving the high floors, where I was booked, was either down to one working elevator or so overwhelmed it took 15-20 minutes to get an elevator. In December the hotel booked itself to a film crew and filming a movie, who had the hotel turn the elevators off at time for shoots, making the delays worse. The staff neglected to tell anyone at check in....meaning that ending up on these floors required you to leave your room 20-30 minutes early. I did notify the hotel manager and he did reply that they are working to address the issue, but on my next stay the same issue existed, there was no warning that a problem existed, and guests were stuck, again, waiting for the high floor elevators.

Regardless of the film my next two trips weren't much better, the hotel just can't seem to handle the extremely large crowds they book. A conference had so many people in the lower levels that, if you had to go down there, you had to navigate through as if it were a college bar. The bellmen had trouble hailing cabs and handling incoming vehicle volume to the point that cars and people were flooding the motor lobby.

Finally the concierge lounge is located on the aforementioned elevator bank, and there is no way to get to it without taking the elevator; if you use it make sure you're on the 42nd floor, because you'll wait 15-20 minutes at times just to get to or from it. So much for a quick coffee or snack.

A suggestion to the hotel: put guests (who are actually staying at the hotel) first, then prioritize everything else. I pay to stay at a hotel, not a conference hall.

Room Tip: Avoid the elevator bank servicing the high floors.

Green Features: I can't say I was sitting around thinking about the hotel's environmentally-friendly anything.

Thank you for your review. The movie filmed in the hotel turned out to be more extensive than we thought. Shame on us for not getting that right. I apologize for any inconvenience to you due to the shooting of the film. All our elevators are running at 100%. I hope you come back because as you said in your review this is a very good hotel with great staff.

Ok so this is one of those old properties that would do with an upgrade in interiors. However why do i rate it a 4 star u ask me? Its because of the staff, they were great. Their service was top notch. I was there for a business conference and believe you me when i say managing 1700 plus people for a conference and to ensure that nothing goes wrong (nothing did go wrong) is really commendable
So a fair warning, ordering to your room is a fairly expensive, i ordered a pizza worth 20 bucks but when i got the bill it was 30 including taxes and delivery charges, that a 50% increment, just saying there are plenty of places nearby, especially this great diner caller metro diner just down the block that serves really great food and the staff is real polite.

Room Tip: take the top floors, i shifted mine to a lower floor thinking a kingsize bed suits me more than a do...

It's nice but is it glamorous? No. It's large with lots of meeting spaces, restaurants, etc. the gym is above average. The rooms are fine and the concierge lounge ok. Not bad just not worthy of the marquis name

The only reason I’m rating this hotel 4 star is due the customer service provided by ANJANIQUE DADE at the front desk and MYLITA at the Velocity bar. Their service was SUPERB!! The rooms were OK however for the cost I expected a little better. There are also security issues that need to be addressed.

Spent a week here during a large trade show nearby. I have stayed at the Marquis two other times but, after this stay, would never stay again. My room first had some problems with a dripping toilet and a broken clock....which were fixed. The pillows are not very firm and are quite small. I requested replacements which were not much better. The sundries/snack store closes early on Sunday nigh (strange for a 1600 room hotel?). For breakfast in the morning, the Starbucks line is very long and the alternative is a $25 buffet (which is actually not so good despite the price tag). Except for the bell service (which was good) most of the other services were indifferent or non-existent. Downtown Atlanta hotels are not known for good service but this particular one is sub-standard in many ways.

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry you did not enjoy the hotel service and amenities. Gift Mart huge business for all the hotels in dowtown Alanta and we do our best to cater to them. Starbucks line can be long especially when everyone is preparing to leave at the same time, but we have coffee only lines that really speed up the line. Thank you again for your review and I hope you try our hotel again at another time.

It is a nice building with stunning view over downtown and huge hall multifloor. For the rest you can find usuall world level marriott hospitality combined with famouse south USA people. On the opposite I have to say that side services are expensive: 1) inside starbucks has "doubled standard price" 2) internet connetion is around 15$ (robbery for people coming from abroad) 3) valer parking is 30$
Ps. Ask for a room on an high floor, it makes the difference!
