“Amazing view inside hotel and outside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

This hotel has an internal galley like a cruise ship but much much higher.. The glass elevators at such heights add to the experience, what is good about this hotel is that the staff are genuinely helpful and the hotel bar area is actually vibrant. The prices were average 199 a night but it is in heart of downtown.

I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of January. I was attending a conference in the hotel so it was convenient to stay there and I'm a Marriott snob so it worked out well for me. If you are afraid of heights this is not the hotel for you. Although there are elevators with no view it's daunting to go up so fast and so high. Note- if you are a Marriott gold or platinum member and have lounge access- make sure you are on floor 42 (concierge) or higher. I was on 41 and it sounds easy but the elevators go by floors so mine was 31-41 and I had to go back down to 10 to take the other elevator up to 42. Super annoying! I did find the stairs and although they were creepy I used them to get up to breakfast.

We ate at Sear one night and it was a great steakhouse. Everything we ordered there was great. The Velocity bar was good for drinks at night. We had breakfast and lunch provided for the conference and they were always tasty as well. One day I walked over to the Peachtree center to get Chik Fil A (how can you not in Atlanta!) and it was so easy and convenient.

We walked to several other restaurants in the area- the Bier Garten was amaaaaaazing and so was Max Lugers.

Room Tip: If you are planning to use the concierge lounge stay on floor 42 or higher!

I don't know what it is about hotels in Atlanta. I have yet to have an outstanding experience when staying there. When I checked in my Marriott number was not associated with my reservation because I was with a group. It basically took an act of Congress and 30 minutes to prove to them that I was actually a platinum Marriott member. Even then they couldn't put me on the concierge levels and my card to the lounge did not work. I find that annoying given the amount of time I stay in Marriott properties. My room was fair - somewhat small but quiet and comfortable. Room service was quick and good. Overall I would probably try to find a different hotel when staying downtown ATL in the future.

I arrived at the hotel at 10 on a Friday morning, having made a a 2 night reservation to stay in town for a business meeting. I had been traveling all night on a red eye from Denver to Charlotte, and Charlotte to Atlanta, I had a miserable cold. They were great in getting a room available for me, even thought I was well before the usual check-in time. I had an opportunity to shower and nap before the 1PM meeting start. Much appreciated and thanks to the hotel front desk!

For those who have business in the Peachtree Center area of Atlanta, this property is a wonderful choice. You will find an easy connection from the airport to the metro system to the hotel. There is a convenient sky bridge that connects the Marriott to the Hyatt across the street. The hotel's lobby is a knockout of visual design with the swooping, dynamic lines of its atrium. The staff at the reception area, the cleaning crews, and the individuals stationed throughout the hotel were all uniformly courteous and professional. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and in tip-top shape. For dining, I suggest a stop at "High Velocity" on the Atrium Level of the hotel . . . and a block away, "White Oak" for nouvelle Southern cuisine.

Room Tip: Rooms are situated away from elevators and isolated from atrium sounds.

My friend and I went to Atlanta during the summer and since we did not have a car we needed a place that was accessible by public transportation. This hotel was located just a few steps from a subway stop. It is also located just a couple blocks from everything, the park, aquarium, coca cola world. Our room was very nice, the tv had good channels and everything was clean.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the elevator.

1) If you plan to use the concierge lounge on floor 42, try to stay on floors 42-47. Otherwise, you will spend 10 minutes EACH WAY going to and from the lounge, taking an elevator down, then up again. It is unacceptable that front-desk staff fail to notify Gold and Platinum guests (their best) that this time-consuming trek is necessary to access the lounge. (Lounge food and staff are quite good, though, after the long journey.)

2) This is a huge hotel with lots of convention business that no longer tends to the details. Lots of small, telling issues: no wastebasket in my first room, no alarm clock in my second, napkin and silverware missing from my room-service meal, thin towels, elevators slow and under repair frequently, desk chair broken, general manager Erica indifferent, etc. Some bellmen, front-desk folks, housekeepers, and room-service people are really trying--it's too bad the hotel as a whole doesn't live up to their individual efforts.
