I had a weather related layover in Atlanta and booked the hotel for one night. I arrived late and tired so I was looking to get to bed promptly so I could catch an early flight back home. The guy at the front desk was nice but when I got off at the fourth floor, I realized the entire floor was undergoing major renovations. There were tarps, buckets, loose drywall, paint cans and all kinds of hazards between me and my room... which was somewhere through the construction zone. Why would ANYONE book a guest in a construction zone? I went back down and requested a room on a floor without the mess and his reply was.. "You requested a King bed..." I said "No... YOU suggested a king bed..." Anyway, he gave me another room on the tenth and it was just fine.
However, something about the smirk on his face gave me an unsettling feeling. So when I was getting ready for bed, I decided to set a “Back-up” alarm on my phone just in case I did not get the promised 5:30am wake-up call. Sure enough, at 5:40, I was awakened by my smartphone alarm because there was NO WAKE UP CALL. I was so tired from travelling from the West Coast, I am sure I would have slept right through and missed my flight! It was one of two things… either incompetence or vengefulness… take your pick... neither one is favorable!
Next time I am in Atlanta… I will make sure I book a Hyatt!
