“Great Atlanta Hotel -- Very safe & great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2009

I booked our hotel through a bidding site & got a phenomenal deal. We went Memorial Day weekend, so I was fairly surprised the bid was accepted.

The hotel is really beautiful. We arrived around 2 a.m., as we got a late jump from our home in Florida. They had our room ready for us & it was a very nice room with plenty of room for a pack N play & Aerobed for Kids.

We ate at the Cassis one morning for breakfast using a Restaurant.com voucher for $25 off $35 (I paid $2 for it). The restaurant is on the pricey side & we wouldn't have eaten there without the voucher. Both of my young kids enjoyed the waterfall & the outside area at the restaurant.

Our only complaint is the valet parking. It was over $20/day, plus all the tips. However, with the rate we got for the room, altogether it cost us around $100/day. We had a great time, the room was very clean & updated. There was a fridge in our room & we used that for breakfast the other two mornings of our stay. We felt safe there even though a local friend warned us it wasn't a safe area. We were back in our room each night early, except for the night we arrived late. We always felt safe & secure. I would definitely stay there again & have recommended it to other relatives.

We booked a "corner king," which they tout as some awesome room. It really wasn't. We paid extra for this "privilege." It was just a room that was outfitted for disabled people and, therefore, bigger. Our room smelled horribly of smoke and when we complained they assured us, that it was a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor, which was true, but it was also true that the room smelled like a bar after last call. We were so dissatisfied we booked the Intercontinental across the street just to get away from it -- no satisfaction was offered by Hyatt (like another room on a different floor), so we paid for two hotels -- one we slept in for exactly one night (the Hyatt), though we were paid for four.

Skip this aging hotel. The common areas look fabulous, but the rooms are showing their age and just don't live up to the name of "Grand Hyatt." We could not have been more disappointed.

They have tried to make this hotel more modern. They had a cool iPod docking station, for example, but it's clear that this is an old hotel that's seen better days. Internet prices are high. I know that's the case everywhere, but come on it's not the Hope Diamond. It's just internet -- and slow at that!

The bed was not very comfortable either. Nowdays, with the upscale hotels battling it out for bed supremacy, the Hyatt fails again. Maybe I just expect too much. No. I just don't like feeling springs in my back all night. They were also lacking in warm bedding. I felt a heavier comforter or duvet would have been nice. Everything seemed like it was meant to look good, instead of actually *be* good, if that makes sense.

The location is convenient to MARTA and many shops and restaurants, but there are many other great hotel options in the area (our Intercontinental Buckhead experience was fabulous, for example). Go elsewhere unless you like smoke, getting treated like you don't matter, or like old hotels with smelly rooms. Looking for a fine hotel, pass this one by.

I was attending a business meeting in the hotel, with a great group rate; regular rates are steep. Service was excellent everywhere in the hotel, typical of Hyatt standards. My king room on the 19th floor offered nice views looking north, but was a little on the small side and somewhat dark with a single 30 inch window. I did appreciate that toothpaste was included in the standard toiletries provided. My room was quiet and nicely furnished. Heating/cooling controls were simple and unobtrusive. The work desk was spacious and comfortable. Wired and wireless internet available ($10/day) but the wireless signal was weak and slow, as is typical in many hotel rooms unless you sit by the door.

The hotel fitness center is very nice -- good equipment, and locker rooms are provided with both a sauna and a steam room, plus free lockers and plenty of room. Best of all, it's accessible 24 hours daily, for free. Want to use the steam room at midnight? Go right ahead, no charge.

I enjoyed dinner at the bar one night. The food was excellent -- but be prepared to wait a bit as it was very busy even on weeknights. There is no other restaurant dinner service offered in the hotel, the main restaurant (Cassis) is now open only for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is served only in the bar/lounge, which does include cocktail table service. Also highly recommended are two restaurants next door, Bricktops and Aquanox.

This hotel is one block from the Buckhead MARTA station, so access to downtown or airport is simple. I used the AtlantaLink shuttle instead, which was fine but took over an hour from the airport to hotel during rush hour. Lenox mall is also just a short walk north on Peachtree.

The Buckhead area has many good hotel choices. We have stayed at this hotel several times and have always been happy. It is very clean and has a nice, fresh scent throughout the entire hotel. The rooms are in good shape. On this most recent trip, however, we did not have the pillows we requested, which were confirmed both prior to our check-in and at our check-in. We left soon after check-in and came back seven hours later, only to find the pillows still were not delivered. It took another call for that and for someone to put a light bulb in the bedside lamp, as it was without one. This was engineering, not housekeeping, so it took two trips to fix these items. On occasion we eat at their restarant in the lobby and find that the food is good, though the service can be slow if it's very busy. Overall, a nice hotel in a great hotel in Buckhead.

The staff was wonderful and gracious. My room was simple but elgant. The conference space was very accomodating and yes, the banquet food actually tasted good! The front desk gave good recommendations for where to dine in Buckhead. All around great experience.

I stayed at this hotel with some friends before heading to Athens for a football game. The experience was great from start to finish.
The good: The staff is very friendly and the lobby area/bar is very well designed. The rooms are very spacious, and the bathrooms are more than adequate. Although I know our hall was full and there were other football fans in the room next to us (some of my friends, who can get loud at times), the rooms were quiet. Checkout was easy, and they, of course, had a computer for guests to check into their flights before leaving.
The bad: the only real negative was that the bar was overpriced. I can live with that since everything was well done.
Obviously, Buckhead is a great place to spend some time. There are plenty of bars/restaurants right outside of the hotel, and even more a short cab ride away. The MARTA is three blocks away, and that will take you to the downtown Atlanta attractions and airport.

The rooms are very spacious and clean. This hotel is a remodeled old Hotel Nikko (Japanaese hotel). The rooms have all been refurbished with excellent and roomy bathrooms.

The TVs were standard (not flat panel) which was a little disappointing but not enough so to complain.

Complaints:
$20 parking/$30 valet parking
$10 internet access that runs from 3pm to 3pm.
Hotel restaurant was not open during lunch

Likes:
Staff was very professional
Bar area is nice with an outdoor waterfall

You can walk to Marta (subway) and shopping (Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza) from this location.

Conference rooms are nice but not very spacious.

I think you'll like this place.
