“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2006

Great hotel in Midtown Atlanta. Employees were friendly and greeted me everytime I entered the lobby. Hotel is older, but in great shape. Suite was large and comfortable, reminded me of a Residence Inn, without the kitchenette. The only negative comment was a breakfast tray left by the door by the previous occupant that had not been picked up. I checked in after 5:00 p.m. and they should have made the '"rounds" by then. Overall, a great stay. Parking was for a fee, if this is of concern, there's a Courtyard just down the street with free parking.

This hotel is a great location 1block to Marta and 1 block to the High Museum. The interstate is just down the road and Atlantic Station is a short drive. We loved the bed and the extra room. We ate once at the hotel and it was fine for our sandwiches.
The only complaint was the indoor pool...cold. We asked the man to turn it up but it never did get warm. Several other guests were complaining and said they could not get into the water it was so cold. The pool area look in need of updating.
The BEST thing about the hotel is the people who work here. From the moment we checked in they were friendly and service was excellant. The doormen were incredibly helpful and nice. As a matter of fact they are the nicest hotel employees I have ever encountered.
Samuel and Sammie are tops.

I agree completely with the previous posters comments on the pros and cons. We called two minutes late to room service and were denied, a bottle of wine. With no mini bar and our flight arriving late on Friday, it was a bummer. Also, no package stores nearby. All in all I found the hospitality of the room service people to be lacking. Certainly didn't go out of their way. The rooms are nice and spacious and the typical Marriott bedding, but the rooms are so outdated, down to the mini tile in the shower. Old wallpaper and carpet, also, the ice machine didn't work on our floor until Sunday, and when calling to the front desk, they wouldn't get ice, they told us to go up to the next floor and get it ourselves. We did enjoy having Starbucks next door and Carolyn's Gourmet around the corner. The MARTA is only a block away.

  • Liked — The spaciousness of the rooms, the balconies, and Carolyn's around the corner
  • Disliked — Had to pay for the business center, no 24hr room service or mini bar.
  • Tips/Secrets — skip the high cost of the breakfaast, and go next door to Carolyns or Einstein's and save calories for a fantastic lunch.

My husband and I went for a long weekend for our 9th wedding anniversary, and after alot of research on Trip Advisor we decided to stay here. What a great choice. We booked straight at the hotel website and got parking and breakfast included for the whole stay. It is $16 a day to self park, and Breakfast for the 2 of us was $33 each day. Our rate was $159 a night. They have a great breakfast buffet and a chef that makes omlettes and waffels. Our room was very clean and the bed Was SO Comfy. The room was very spacious! We even had a balcony you could actually go out on. The staff was very kind and extremely friendly. We did not use the pool or hot tub, but we did check it out, very clean and tidy, as well as was the workout room. The Marta subway stop Arts/Crafts, is just across the street and down. Very safe neighborhood. There is a STARBUCKS next door with a patio and tables outside that was open really late. This was a wonderful experience with Marriott.

  • Liked — The size of the room!!
  • Disliked — Hmmm....Can't think of anything
  • Tips/Secrets — Get parking and/or breakfast included in reservation

PROS:
1) Spacious room. The room had a living area with seating and a TV which connected to the bedroom (which also had a TV) through French doors. Fridge, counter and sink area seemed useful although I did not use it on my stay. The separate wardrobe area with a sink, counter and closet was nice. The room also had a standing shower in addition to a tub.
2) Clean rooms and common areas.
3) Comfortable bedding.

CONS:
1) Bar closes fairly early.
2) No 24-hour room service.
3) Décor in rooms is somewhat dated and bland. Don't be fooled by the lobby which has obviously been through a recent modern makeover.
4) No mini-bar in room which would have been nice since room service closed early.

My business stay at the Marriott was basically no-frills and the hotel met expectations. Veni Vidi Vice and Shout! are some nice restaurants within walking distance. There are only a few bars that stay open late in the area.

  • Liked — Comfortable and quiet rooms.
  • Disliked — Lack of late night dining and entertainment onsite and nearby.
  • Tips/Secrets — Plan ahead for late night dining and/or entertainment as there isn't much close by.

Came here in May of 2006 for the first time and did not know what to expect. Then the friendly front desk lady said,'girl, you are right in the middle of the happening place in the city!' And boy is she right.

There are many bars and clubs right behind the hotel and you can just walk there, have fun, and go back to the hotel without have to worry about parking and paying for the $5 (sometimes $10) parking fees. This place is where you can see the young and hip crowd hanging out in all different kinds of bars.

The suite itself is spacious and wonderfully clean. 2 TVs: one in the bedroom and one outside. Gotto pay for internet though. Definitely still worth staying!

  • Liked — Location
  • Disliked — No other size of beds
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask Concierge for a local map and list of attraction and dining restaurants.

Stayed here during a conference at the Woodruff Arts Center nearby, and this was one of a few recommended hotels for the conference. A year ago, for a similar conference there, I had stayed at the Sheraton Midtown, but wanted to try something different this time. I had a spacious king bed in a true suite--with a living room separated from the bedroom by double glass paned doors. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. This hotel has a rather spartan lobby area, with a small restaurant for breakfast (not included in my conference rate of $106/night), but the service by the restaurant staff, desk staff, and bell staff was all very attentive. The weekend buffet-only breakfast was typically pricey, but very good. Better food choices are next door: a very nice Starbucks and an Einstein Brothers Bagels. As for cocktails: almost next door is the truly upscale Four Seasons Hotel with an exquisite bar & lounge for your nightcap. By contrast, I found my room at the Sheraton (two blocks away) to be smaller for a higher room rate (at this same conference the rate was $139), but it has two bars and is connected to a retail complex with several dining options. Both hotels are about a 2-3 block walk from the MARTA (subway station). It's only $1.75 each way between Atlanta's airport and the Arts Center Station, and takes 20-30 minutes--about the same as a cab ride that costs $30. MARTA is easy, clean and safe. The MARTA terminal is INSIDE the Airport terminal, with excellent directional signage.
The hotel is near the Robert Woodruff Arts Center, home of the Atlanta Symphony, Alliance Theatre, and other performing arts, as well as the High Museum of Art--an excellent museum.
One block from the hotel is a street called Crescent, which has several restaurants. The one I ate at: South City, specialized in gourmet southern cuisine and was superb!
