Great location for access to MARTA - right across the street from the Peachtree station exit (turn left out of the train and walk to the end of the station, then follow the signs). Unfortunately, this area of Atlanta has some pretty aggressive panhandlers, so be alert if you arrive after dark, especially dragging luggage.
Exceptionally friendly and competent front desk clerk - I believe her name was Nichole. Made a real effort to find me a room that met the description I entered on their reservations website. In fact, all staff I encountered were friendly and talkative - maybe it's a Southern thing.
I had a corner room on the 14th floor with windows on two sides, but no view to speak of. I could hear some street noise in the early evening, but nothing that kept me awake. The room layout was a bit awkward - like two squares attached at a corner - and the part at the entrance was basically unused space. The comfortable king sized bed took up most of the other part of the room. There was a medium sized flat screen TV and an armchair, as well as desk space that needed more light. Generally, though, the furnishings were modern and nice. Molton Brown bath amenities (English).
Room service for dinner was a bit eclectic, but the front desk provided a $15 coupon, so that was nice.
Basically a boutique hotel in a cozy, older building, nicely renovated, with an interesting history. Ask the front desk clerk to tell you. HINT: I'm told it's on ghost tours of downtown Atlanta.
Had a wonderful experience from check in to check out. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My accommodations were clean, updated and comfortable, the bed in particular. The cuisine from room service was really up to snuff as well. I would highly recommend.
This is a lovely hotel in the business / downtown area of Atlanta. It's near the much more exciting looking Westin, in it's shiny round skyscraper, and almost opposite the very upper class looking Ritz Carlton...and if I'm honest my heart sank a little as we drove up.
But I needn't have worried. As soon as you step into the lobby, at least one member of staff will greet you in a very friendly and sincere way. The lobby is nice and open with a couple of sofas in, and the check in / out desk. Two elevators to the side take you up to your room - for female solo travelllers, the Ellils has a floor just for solo females. You need to use your room card to operate the lift - and only those staying on the female only floor can actually choose that floor button on the lift - as I discovered when I tried to help a fellow guest by pressing the buttons for her! Although I wasn't staying on that floor, or travelling alone, I thought that was a nice security measure.
I'm from Europe so the room was a perfectly good size for me, but I guess it might be classed as a little small by American standards. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. There was a desk, tv, two chairs and a bathroom off to the side. The bathroom had a walk in shower but no bath. As mentioned, the toiletries were very nice and restocked regularly. Other people have mentioned problems with the housekeeping but I didn't notice any problems - bedding and towels were changed when requested and I always had my newspaper. We were on the 6th floor facing out onto Peachtree, but with the window shut we didn't experience any street noise.
We didn't try the bar or restaurant, but both are meant to be nice. Room service was quick and polite. The only problem is that the free wi-fi in the hotel didn't work very well on the 6th floor - the signal would cut out and when it did work it was very slow. This was a shame, as it worked perfectly well in the lobby. But this is the only complaint I can come up with for the hotel - it might have been more of a problem for business travellers than it was for me.
To be truthful, I hesitated staying here because of not receiving chain hotel points. However, I would go back in a heart beat. The boutique feel, comfy beds, great location (walkable to all key venues), helpful and caring staff, that went beyond helping us to get the most from our short visit to Atlanta, delicious food (best hamburger ever) all contributed to a five star rating. It ranks as one of my top rated hotels...and I usually stay at the W.
