It's hard to review this restaurant because one item I got was delicious, but overall, we weren't impressed and wouldn't go back. My husband I visited this restaurant for dinner. The decor is very nice, but it is all wood (including chairs) with no fabric or upholstry to absorb some of the sound of the noisy business people eating and drinking there. Even though it wasn't crowded, the sound was deafening - definitely not recommended for a romantic or intimate dinner.

We started with a crab cake appetizer, priced ridiculously high at $12.50 for one small crab cake. The crab cake was of average flavor. We have had better at several restaurants for a lower price. It was attractively garnished (as was all the food), but an attractive garnish can't be substituted for good taste.

The restaurant also offered biscuits before dinner, which were of average, or perhaps slightly below average, taste.

My husband ordered the crab hash for his entree, for which he had high expectations. It was well-presented and generously portioned, but it was terribly bland. I ordered the appetizer portion of the chicken livers for my entree, which was delicious - tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had mashed potatoes as a side, which were just plain mashed potatoes and, as far as I'm concerned, shouldn't even be on the menu of a gourmet restaurant.

We ordered the much-touted chocolate pecan pie for dessert, which was tasty enough.

I took the family to South City Kitchen for Sunday brunch. We made reservations over the Internet, which was a nice touch. We started with the muffins and fried green tomatoes. After ordering, we sat, and sat, and sat, while others that came in after us were eating their meals. Finally, the waitress admitted that she had forgotten to place our order with the kitchen.

When the food eventually arrived, it was wonderful. I had the crab cake, poached egg and country ham, which was outstanding. Others had the pancakes, French toast, and shrimp / scallops and grits. All were outstanding.

The waitress told us that she would comp us dessert for the mix-up. After ordering the dessert, we saw the same desserts being delivered to another table. Too much of a coincidence that someone would order the exact same thing as us, so I finally asked about our desserts. She now admitted that the dessert had been delivered to the wrong table. We had to wait for another round to be delivered to us.

This is supposedly one of the best restaurants in Atlanta. It is too nice of a place to have such sloppy service.

I had been to SCK a few years ago when my father was visiting on business but my husband took me back this year for my birthday (end of May). The server was aware it was my birthday and treated me wonderfully.

We started off with the fried green tomatoes appetizer which I would highly recommend. They bring cornbread to your table just after you are seated. These are wonderful and served with real butter. Unlike some other cornbreads these are moist and full of flavor.

For dinner I had the scallops with creamy grits served with a garlic gravy. It was delicious. There were 5 large scallops which were sweet and made properly. The grits were very creamy and tasted so much better than the kind you eat at breakfast. The gravy was an excellent way to top off the grits.

My husband ordered the fried chicken dinner (for which SCK is famous) which comes with 2 large pieces, mashed potatoes (creamy and homemade) and fresh green beans. For dessert we shared the chocolate pecan pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pie was delicious. Wonderful, flaky crust and large pieces of pecans with just the right amount of chocolate and sweetness. Wonderful way to end the meal and the service was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant. It is close to many of Atlanta's sights (Piedmont Park, Georgia Tech, The Varsity, theatres, etc.) so it would be an excellent way to start or end your evening.
