“Decent food, ambience could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

Met another couple for dinner this past Saturday. The restaurant was not crowded at all, other than a private party going on in a back room. We had a decent booth, although the seat cushions could use a little work and if sitting in the middle of the booth, the table is very close to your body. That said, Patrick was a nice waiter. For the most part, he was unobtrusive and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our food. There was really no rush for our table, anyway. The food was good, but not the best I have had. The portions were a nice size. My grouper was cooked nicely and the bibb lettuce salad was very good. My husband ordered the duck and our friends ordered the meatloaf and the seafood stew. All were good, but again not the most memorable. The prices are on the mid-high range, however any good restaurant will be priced accordingly, especially if you want a decent meal. The overall ambience of the restaurant could be improved, as well, it felt a little cold.

“One word- Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

Never would have guessed it at this restaurant in a strip mall but the food and service were wonderful. The fried green tomatoes were perfect and the shrimp and grits were the best I've had. Service was excellent. Prices were great. A definite have to try it out!

“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

Nine of us ate at Food 101 for a business dinner.

We had several appetizers, salads, entrees, dessert and some beer & wine. It was fairly expensive but the food was good. The menu offered lots of options and some tasty versions of down home comfort food (e.g., meatloaf, fried green tomatoes). The meal was very enjoyable as the food and service were good. We had the Emblem cab with our meal and it was ok, not necessarily something I'd drink again.

And as a vegetarian it was nice to have a choice but the vegetable plate seemed to be cooked by someone who doesn't understand a vegetarian palate. For you meat eaters, meat tends to overwhelm the other flavors so, when you eliminate it, you rely on other seasonings or else the taste falls flat. My vegetable plate was good in texture but really bland; I rarely rely on adding salt and pepper and needed to add liberal amounts of both. I understood from my fellow diners that their meals were great though.

Dessert was great - we had a pecan pie and creme brulee and shared them among the 9 of us. Super service, lovely place.

“Good food, good ambience, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

My initial disappointment that they were out of my first two choices (don't go on Monday) was overcome for the most part by the tasty crab cakes. Generous portions, perfectly cooked. The service was attentive, but not worrisome. Pleasant surroundings, ample parking in a strip shopping center.

“12 Beers of Christmas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

We were fortunate enough to attend Food 101's "Twelve Beers of Christmas" dinner. Chef Justin Keith paired 12 beers with a 5 course meal. Best dinner pairing we have ever had from what we remember of it! The beer was cold, the food was fantastic and the service was perfect. Chef Keith came into the dining room and explained every course and the beers that went with it. It was an extraordinary night. Don't miss this event if they do it again!
