“So Much to See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

We went on Saturday to the Swan House and Atlanta History Center. I love seeing how people used to live and this was exceptional because there were no glass walls where you couldn't feel a part of the house, you actually felt like you were a guest there. The maid character in the kitchen was the BEST. She was very informative and funny. This is a must see when visiting Atlanta.

“Beautiful example of the opulence of the "Roaring Twenties"...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

(disclaimer: I am a member of the Atl History Center)
Part of the Atlanta History Center complex The Swan House features the beautiful architecture by one of the premier architects of the era (Shutze) coupled w/ the wonderful furnishings--many original fr/ the family and a number are priceless. Get a view of how an upper class Atlanta family (couple) of the 20s lived. The tour is as good as the docents (some want to set speed records and others get mired in detail) so hope for one who is knowledgeable and entertaining or go w/ a member who knows the house. Smaller tours are better b/c you have time to explore and ask questions so try to visit on a less crowded weekday and avoid school groups.
It is an exceptional contrast to the 1840s era Tullie Smith House also on the AHC grounds.

This was a lovely tour with very friendly guides and the freedom to look around without feeling like you were going to break something.

“A must-see if you love historic homes!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

The Swan House is a lovely home on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center. The docents who guide you through the house are very knowledgeable and make the tour fun and interesting. Be on the lookout throughout the home for both swans and eagles; you'll see many of each!

Not only is the tour pleasant, but it provided a cooling respite from the humid summer heat during my June visit. Allow about an hour to hour & a half for the tour from start to finish. For anyone taking young children on this tour, please be sure they are well-mannered and able to contain their energy. It's a fun learning experience for most ages, and you won't want to miss any of the trivia tidbits shared by the guides.

The Swan House is a beautiful house and the tour is very enlightening on the way the affluent lived at the beginning of the last century.
