Located in the Perimeter/Dunwoody area of metro Atlanta. I was recommended by friends from TX to try Chuy's and since there was in the area I was near I decided to give it a try. Most Mexican restaurants are usually the same... same boring food and cheesy atmosphere and décor. This location has atmosphere and décor that fun, unique, and not your typical Mexican décor with Mexican hats and cactus everywhere. The coolest part of the décor are the over 1,000 handmade carved and painted fish that look like the are swimming in schools along the ceiling of the restaurant. The restaurant is unique in itself in that it is in the shape of a big circle with lots of windows.
The servers and staff were very friendly and very eager to answer any questions or help with any recommendations.
The portions are on the bigger size with many of the entrees and most come with rice and beans.
Chips and salsa are given to you when you arrive and are free. The salsa was fresh and tasty and the chips were also fresh, crispy, and not too thick. Try the boom boom sauce... the server recommended it and it was delicious. I had the Baja shrimp tacos and they were probably the best shrimp tacos I ever had. The breading was light and very tasty allowing a nice balance of breading and shrimp taste.
Free refills are included with soft drinks and teas and the iced tea is brewed fresh.
During the weekdays from 4-7pm, they offer a FREE nacho bar happy hour with nachos, beef, salsa, and toppings served out of the trunk of an old Chevy... its quite unique.
There is also a shrine to Elvis near the bar... not sure why, but there is.
The restaurant can get very loud when it is full and makes hearing conversations a little difficult.
