“Perfectly Acceptable for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2008

I got a great deal on this hotel and was very pleased with what we got for the price. The room was not in the best condition, it had obviously been well-loved and renovated several times over the years. However, it was HUGE!

This time, it was just my wife and I, so we really didn't need all the space, but the room was very clean, and it was not drafty or loud. The bathroom was also clean and the water temperature and pressure were great. The hotel is close to the Georgia Tech campus, ,so there were a number of college students around, but we enjoyed that.

We went to a local sports bar and a concert, and when we returned to the hotel, we were still hungry and were able to grab a bite at Charlie G's, a little bar on the same block as the hotel.

I had to stay here one night, and upon arrival, the front desk was fairly rude because my room was paid for, but they insisted it wasn't and demanded my credit card anyway. It was all resolved by check out and I was not charged, but the customer service was not good. I decided to shower and imagine that NO towels. I called the front desk and he said that he had some at the desk, but housekeeping couldn't bring me any for atleast an hour?! The bed was really comfortable whether the room had been cleaned or not, who knows?!? I had a meeting early in the morning and valet took approximately 20 minutes to show up and get my car...not impressed.

The hotel was great value (£65 b&b) for a pit stop en-route elsewhere. It was clean and had everything we needed however there's not much going on in the area. There's a nice restaurant called Oceanic at 14th St but thats about it.

We went up to Buckhead to pick up a car and on reflection I'd probably have rather styaed there, or at the airport and saved £40 (ish) on a taxi into town.

The staff at the hotel were great, friendly, pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good.

  • Liked — Clean and friendly staff.
  • Disliked — Location more business oriented.

I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of time in lame hotels, but this is not one of them. Only a couple blocks from the office buildings, MARTA station, and the Arts Center. The front desk staff were very friendly every time you entered the lobby. They were always acknowledging you whenever you walked by. The breakfast is average, but they do provide free copies of the Wall Street Journal in the breakfast area which is a nice read compared to the USA Today you find at most other hotels. (Yes you can still get the USA Today here) The only downside is that there is no vending machine and the market they have in the lobby is rather expensive. If you are looking for a bottle of soda, forget the $2.50 charge and go right next door to Fed Ex Kinkos. They have a vending machine with $1.25 drinks and they are open 24 hours on the weekdays.

There are very few restaurants in the immediate area, but there are some decent ones a couple blocks down the road within walking distance. The Madison Grill right next door is average, and probably only good for a simple meal. There is a Subway one block over if you are looking for something really quick, but it closes early and isn't open on weekends, save for 3 hours on Saturday. They cater to the lunchtime office crowd. Shout is down at Colony Square if you like sushi. They have all you can eat sushi for $10 at lunch time, I am not sure about dinner. They do have other options if you are not into Sushi. Surprisingly, if you are looking for nightlife, Shout is a place to go. Crescent Street holds several good restaurants. If you are on a date or looking for a romantic dinner, try South City Kitchen on Crescent. Front Page News has a great environment if you can get a seat outside. Young singles can't expect a night out on the town, but there are a couple bars within walking distance for a good time. Taco Mac, about 6 blocks south on Peachtree Street has over 250 beers, and probably 150 of them on draft. Twisted Taco is where the young singles will want to go. Relatively cheap drinks for the area. Atlantic Station is within walking distance and is probably your closest spot for shopping, but you can take the MARTA two stops northbound and get off at Lennox. There is a rather large mall right there. The front desk staff seem to be very knowledgeable about area locations as well, so feel free to ask them and they will direct you in the right direction.

Stayed at the Residence Inn Marriott Midtown Atlanta for 5 nights on a recent business trip.

The hotel is convenient to the office buildings located in the Atlanta Midtown area. It is also a short walk from the Arts Center MARTA station, which makes airport access quick and easy.

The hotel rooms are clean and furnished adequately. My room had a small kitchen, including a stove top, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. The room and hotel color schemes are horrible, a mix of reds and browns that seem to be the result of a corporate room designer looking for the best colors to hide wear and tear.

The hotel includes a breakfast in the room rate - basically an unappealing buffet of cereals, breads, yogurt, a mix of seasonal fresh fruit and defrosted fruit, and a warmer containing scrambled eggs, sausage patty, croissant, and either pancakes or french toast. Orange and cranberry juice is also available. Its ok to take a plate of food back to the guest rooms rather than sit in the dining area.

The hotel has no F&B, other than a small stand selling instant foods and bottled drinks. There are no casual restaurants located within easy walking distance, so the lack of food service options can be an inconvenience.

The hotel lacks an attention to detail. For example, after forgetting a toothbrush I requested one from the front desk, as is offered in the guest information book. The hotel was out of tooth bushes and I was told a new supply was "on order."

Internet is included free, but is achingly slow. I also had the service stopped on two occasions for "excessive usage" and had to notify a call center to get the service restarted. The excessive usage was skype.

Watch out for car parking. The rate is USD 19/day. No need for valet parking, it would be a pain, as the hotel does not have a full time valet.

The Midtown area is pretty much dead in terms of dining and entertainment options. The large office towers in the area have lots of vacant retail space and the restaurants seem to cater to a lunch crowd. There is a Starbucks and Einstein Bagel located about 10 min walk located near Atlantic Tower and near the Four Seasons Hotel.

Overall the hotel is adequate for business purposes in the Midtown Atlanta area. For private travel to Atlanta I would recommend a hotel in a more vibrant area with entertainment, shopping, and dining options. The upside is convenient access to MARTA.

The photos on the Marriott website for this property are a bit deceiving. They must just have a few rooms with high ceilings. My request for a high floor away from the elevator - they got this right, but unfortunately the room was lackluster at best. The view was of a brick wall so the room got little light and while it had Ethernet access and jacks throughout the room only one would work by the desk. Why would anyone go to the trouble of having jacks all over the room and only having one that worked?!?
The bed while comfortable did not seem like the new Marriott bed.
Otherwise, all was ok with this hotel. The staff was nice and helpful and breakfast was tasty and fresh.

We stayed at the Residence Inn for our anniversary. The location can't be beat, as there are lots of shopping, restaurants, and amenities close by.

The staff was friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. We had the one bedroom suite with a kitchen, and the separate living area is convenient for the spouse who rises earlier. There was plenty of soundproofing between the walls, so the noise level was at a minimum.

We used the valet parking, and it is pricey at $19 per night. However, it took no time to get our car when we wanted to go out and about.

The hot breakfast was quite adequate, with several choices, including pancakes and waffles, eggs and potatoes, and cereal and muffin choices.

All in all, our stay here was great, and we would definitely stay here again!
