We stay in Atlanta about once a month for a getaway. This was our first experience at a Westin hotel or any hotel in the Starwood Hotel group.
We got a deal on the hotel's website for a one bedroom suite on a Saturday night that included wifi and breakfast. Wifi was fast and reliable. We didn't use the breakfast coupons because we checked out early.
The property is beautiful. Located in the city where you can see the lights of the city at night, yet surrounded by trees and a small lake which make you feel like you are far away from the actual city. The hotel itself is beautiful as well. Nice furnishings an elegance/contemporary feel throughout the hotel. We loved the mix of wood with silver metals, we really felt relaxed.
The suite was spacious with a huge living/dining room area (the bathroom was a little small for such a large living area)
We ordered food service for dinner and the food was great. We had the buffalo wings (great flavor and the blue cheese dressing was great, not overpowering, just perfect), chicken quesadillas, and asparagus (a little overcooked, limp)
There was an incident at the hotel which was out of the hotel's control and everyone working at the hotel took great stride in making sure that everyone affected were treated properly and in a timely manner. There could not have been better customer service during this time. Very professional, compassionate and really impressed with management and checkin/out staff on December 20th.
While the room was large and spacious, just what we wanted for an anniversary weekend, there were a few problems inside the room. The room seemed clean overall, until you stepped into the bathroom. For a nice hotel such as this, the bathroom was a let down. Not only is it small, it was very dirty. Broken tile in the shower, hair from someone else still in the shower when we arrived (we didn't complain, just cleaned it ourselves before we showered), dirty shower walls and floor and after we took a shower, we noticed blood on the wall beside the sink. Not only was it on the wall, blood appeared to be on the floor on the grout of the tile and on the tile outside the shower base that someone didn't clean well. This was bad. Someone (presumably housekeeping) had obviously cleaned the area and should have noticed the rest of the blood in this bathroom. We didn't complain because our night was cut short by an emergency at the hotel, but housekeeping really needs to pay attention to these things, especially when you have a white floor. Everything shows!!!
During the week, this is a business hotel and may be quieter during the week as many have noted in their reviews. But since we were there on a weekend, there was a lot of noise. There was a charity event in the lower level and we were on the 8th floor, so we didn't hear the noise directly from the party. Instead we heard noise through the air ducts from either the floor above or below us. It was a full on party. You could hear 10-12 different voices, laughing music, screaming. We even had the TV up and you could still hear it. We did call downstairs and 10 minutes later the noise stopped, so we assumed security handled the problem.
Since there was an event in the lower level, many of their attendees were staying at the hotel overnight and there was a lot of noise in the hallways as well. A lot of people drinking and having a great time, which is GREAT unless you are at hotel trying to enjoy a romantic night away for your anniversary, then it's a little disappointing. Many others have complained about the noise on the weekends, so maybe it's just the way it is at this hotel on the weekends.
While the food was great - they did forget our asparagus and had to bring it up 5 minutes later after a call was made to the lobby. While this is a quick fix, we only ordered three items and one of the three items was missing. Not a big deal, but something that we feel shouldn't have happened.
Beautiful hotel and property, great customer service. We might try this hotel again if we are in town during the week, but we aren't sure if we would enjoy a weekend away at this particular hotel if we are looking for a relaxing getaway.
