Description: Opening just in time for Oktoberfest 2010, Der Biergarten gives Atlanta residents and visitors a true taste of German culture. Located Downtown within the Luckie Marietta District, Der Biergarten fills a citywide void of beer gardens and authentic German fare while providing world-class service in a festive, traditional atmosphere. Co-owner Wolfgang Hartert, a local resident and native of Germany, provided much of the inspiration for Der Biergarten. As he says, “Atlanta needs a restaurant like Der Biergarten. The significant German population and business community in Atlanta is begging for an authentic dining experience. I know that Der Biergarten will provide Europeans, just like me, a place to share the rich heritage of Germany with American friends.” Der Biergarten is made up of an elegant white tablecloth dining room, an alley with Fussball and table shuffleboard, and, of course, the indoor/outdoor beer garden. With traditional family style seating -a la Munich- and multiple flat-screen TVs, the beer garden is the best place for watching European or American football! Enjoy our authentic German cuisine while being surrounded by Bavarian décor, such as the hand-painted trompe l'oeil ("illusionistic") murals by Alexi Torres Alonso and a German-manufactured model-railroad that circles the restaurant.

“Hits the spot”

Excellent German beer, an authentic menu (particularly the wurst and cheese plate), and a nice combination of indoor and outdoor seating, along with a prime location near the GWCC make this establishment a great place to visit.

“Surprisingly authentic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

You wouldn't figure that a place called "Der Biergarten" around the corner from the CNN Center would be particularly good, much less authentic. You'd be wrong - I was. There is nothing on the menu that you wouldn't find in a traditional Bavarian restaurant (vegetarians, be forewarned!), and the beer list is both extensive and authentic. The staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions. If you like Hefeweizen, and traditional German fare, you'll love this place. Lederhosen/dirndl optional.

“Some dishes dry and over cooked.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

Went on a Sunday night. Very casual place. Service was very good. Parking for 3 hours validated in garage directly across the street. One member of our party had jaegerschnitzel and thought it very good. He said he had had better hunters gravy but this was good. Spatzel was dry and not very flavorful. Schweinhax was extremely dry and almost inedible. Potato pancakes and salmon as an app were excellent as was the beer. Probably wont return for dinner.

“Pretty Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

I spent 15 years in Germany, so I am a bit of a German food snob. I ordered the Goulash soup and Jeager schnitzel. Both were good and had a hint of authenticity, but was not the best. The pommes frits were a bit on the salty side, but over all it was good. The waitstaff was great and though I have had better German food I would still recommend giving it a try!
