My fiance and I stayed at the Westin Buckhead for one night on the day after Thanksgiving. Self-parking is a bit of a pain, but as someone who was unfamiliar with the area, $20 was worth doing the parking ourselves and the confusing elevator ride from the parking lot to the adjacent building's lobby.
We walked up a lovely staircase to get to the front desk, where we waited in line for about 10 minutes. There were two people working at the time but it seemed to take forever for the 6 or so guests to check-in before us. We amused ourselves with the the citrus iced water that was available on a side table. The actual check-in process was pretty seamless, I requested the highest floor possible for my reservation and the front desk clerk was able to accomodate us with a room on the 15th floor away from the elevators.
The actual room was a fair size. The overall look of the space was dated and in need of a refresh as other reviewers had mentioned. One of the paper shades on the ceiling light at the doorway was partially falling off. We didn't try to fix or adjust it in fear it would just fall completely (it looked delicate). The bathroom, while in need of a facelift, was a good size and was clean. I would have loved to have one of the larger rainfall shower heads that I've experienced at other Westin hotels (in NY and NJ). We enjoyed the bathroom's TV audio feature (it was a speaker) that allowed us to listen to the news. Per usual, the large king size bed was very comfortable and had soft sheets!
My biggest upset happened the morning of check-out. My fiance and I decided to sleep in a bit after a fun night in Buckhead, and we did not wake up until 10AM. Housekeeping knocked on our door around 10:30AM; I answered the door and informed the housekeeper that we weren't quite ready to leave our room. She asked us when we would be out. I politely told her that we planned on leaving before the check-out time (which is 12PM). Her reply was "I can't come back at that time. That time is my lunch break so it will have to be sooner." She did not even look up at me when she spoke (she was looking at a clipboard). I was floored at her rudeness! A second later, she then proceeded to tell me to find her on the floor when we were leaving and let her know. --- Excuse me? Check out time is check out time, and it is really not my concern that the check-out time is also her lunch break. If that is really a problem, the Westin should change either the check-out time or housekeeping's lunch break time. Plus, since when is it the responsbility of the guest to alert housekeeping that they're on their way out?
The exchange with housekeeping soured my visit. It was one of the first things that happened that morning and really, made me want to leave. I felt unwelcomed. My fiance and I packed up and were out of the room within an hour (about a half hour before check-out). We were happy to leave. Thankfully, we did not have to stop by the front desk to check out. The Westin has a convenient option to drop off our key cards in a box while leaving the parking lot.
We paid for the room with part SPG points and part cash. I would have been extremely upset if I had paid the full price of room which at the time of booking was $150+. It is a shame because I am not very difficult to please hotel-wise. Give me a clean and well-kept room (updated decor or not), and pleasant service and I'm golden. I've come to expect this for hotels at the caliber of Westin hotels. I was not satisfied and most likely, will not return to this Westin again. We will stay at the other SPG hotel in Buckhead (the W) or possibly visit non-SPG hotels on our next visits to the area.
