Owner description: In the 1880s, before there were epic motion pictures, there were Cycloramas. This 42-foot-high cylindrical oil painting depicts the Battle of Atlanta in 1864. Viewed from a 360-degree rotating platform, the vivid details of this historic Civil War battle are now restored and enhanced with music, narration and sound effects. Accompanying the Cyclorama is the Civil War Museum, highlighted by a steam locomotive from 1862.

If you love history, you will love this. It is right next the Atlanta zoo, so if you do not want to leave, just go next door and enjoy the animals.

“The ONLY ONE !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Largest Oil Painting in the world and depicts the Civil War. You can't tell by looking that some figures in front of the mural(Diaroma) are not life size and are sometimes less than 2 foot tall or where they end and the painting starts. The painting is HUGE and you sit in seats that rotateyou around for the viewing and narrative. Also has the locomotive Texas used in the war9The Great Chase) painted in 1885-86 by German artist.

“One of a kind”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

There is nothing to compare with the Atlanta Cyclorama. The painting is awesome. It depicts the Battle of Atlanta and illustrates the horrors of the Civil War. The ground work is remarkable. It is almost impossible to detect where the painting ends and the ground work begins. You even smell the Georgia red clay. This is an attraction to make one think.

“poor customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

tour guide was friendly knowledgeable and funny, the only frienly employee there.it was a very educational experience.when we bought the tickets seller was not friendly,no smile.sign outside that the place closes at 430.we wanted to buy souvenier it was still at 4:24 pm but it was already closed.the cashier saw us outside hoping to go in did not even look at us,too busy to end their day before the said time of closure .we came there earlier when it was still open too busy counting her money without even acknowledging us that we were waiting for her.i think these employees need training on customer service, like thank you for visiting the place.they should at least be happy to have a job in this sour ecoonomy.they must be govt or city employees that jobs are too secure...

“This attraction has stood the test of time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

Being from Atlanta I go back a long way with the round building. I remember as a 5th grader walking with my entire class to spend the day in Grant Park and touring the Cyclorama. This beautiful gray building holds a work of art the likes that I have never seen anywhere else. Basically German artists painted a 35 foot (apprx) tall painting on canvass. The subject being the Battle of Atlanta in the War between the States. The canvass is attached to the inside circular wall. As you stand in an elevated center of the room, the painting comes alive as from the base of the wall, the battle is recreated with landscaping, mannequins wearing gray and blue, military equipment and a great narrative. The building also has a small museum along with one of the locomotives from the Walt Disney's "Great Locomotives Chase" movie. I think this is the center point of a visit to the park and zoo.
